Thankyou guys, Had a couple of hours today and got this.... It slipped together like it had come from the factory with it fitted. ;D ;D ;D ;D Had a couple of issues but should be easy enough to sort out. I hope to be putting it in the car this weekend. I have a Capri prop and gearbox mount thanks to Mrcorty on here just need to make it fit which shouldn't be to hard. I'm starting to get a bit excited again now. ;D I don't supose one of you guys could measure the travel of the clutch fork lever moving forward from right back untill it hits the pressure plate? Trying to figure out how far forward it needs to come before the clutch is dissengaged. Does that make sence?

I am now sopping wet through from laying in the road trying to get my fat under the car... Gets better, realised now that I was under said car i can see the total distance from the arm to the front stop on the bell housing is about 1.5" - 2" tops but as i cannot split myself in two (one to press the pedal and one to be under the car looking) I was wasting my time trying Ahhh the joy of it ;D ;D ;D I shall await the village idiot passing and get them to assist... more on this later

Brilliant!! ;D Although it pains me to see a type 9 - you should have gone for the mt75 which is the newer box, much nicer gear selection apparently, lighter, stronger... would have been about the same amount of work but they are good boxes, personally I like the agricultural feel of the shift lol! Ahhh viva e is so cool it hurts! I am also insanely jelous of your workshop

Thanks for having a go Paul, it's not that urgent so don't go getting wet again. dj - The MT75 is all one casting so sorting a bellhousing might be an issue plus i cant weld alloy so i'm stuffed anyway. don't worry the workshop isn't mine i just borrow it from work after hours Been swearing at it again today. Old box and prop are now out so i can now see exactly how much longer the type 9 is. Fiddlesticks! Lever should come out right where the handbrake is. I'm not giving up now though. I have heard you can narrow the type 9 box slightly which may be enough to clear the handbrake. I'm going to look into it as i really don't want to touch the handbrake. That's all for today, tommorow i'll drop the motor back in so i can get that job off the list and concentrate on the box.

Others that have used the type 9 gearbox on the larger slant four engines have had the same handbrake issue. one solution was to offset the handbrake leaver to one side of the tunnel. A slightly more expensive option is to get one of the specially modified type 9 boxes that feature a shortened leaver shaft and case, that moves the leaver forward but 3 inches or so seen as here: cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Type-9-Gearbox-Triumph-Spitfire-5-Speed-Conversion_W0QQitemZ260540492508

Ah i see, i was looking at it thinking "cut and shut" but taking the rear quarter out like that would be much better. I'm tempted to have a bash at this myself and get someone to weld the tail housing but i'm not great at dismantling gearboxes. Things jump out of them from nowhere.

I am looking for pictures of a HA running a zetec and type nine, uses a bent gearleaver idea, to get around the handbrake issue.

That interior is rather nice! The bent lever looks better than i thought it would too. There is a company local to me who will shorten the tail. I'll give them a call to see what they charge.

Took a bit of looking but i found the pictures of the offset handbrake idea....All owner has done is move them towards the drives side, therefore one can change gear without hitting handbrake ;D ;D website work poddleing over as well.... homepages.nildram.co.uk/~lynsand/index.htm

Had a closer look today and the offset handbrake idea will be easiest and cheapest. Before i get the grinder on it i'm going to see what exactly is involved in shortening the tail and how much it would cost for someone else to do it. If it's easy or cheap enough i'd rather go that route so the purist will have a job to tell from above. Anyway, it's in! Only so i can make a crossmember and prop for now though. Snug is the word i'd use but at least the floor will not have to be cut for clearance.

Yep all good so far although i'm not sure a saloon/estate etc wont need cutting. Just found this I don't think I will be doing it and it looks like i'll only loose about 3".

Crossmember done, bit hefty hence the holes. This box weighs a lot more than the standard box so every little helps. Only got the prop to do now. Still waiting for the head to be done so passing some more time by shortening the tailhousing on the type 9.

The blue and silver one is the Ha I bulit for my wife . Handbrake is twisted slightly (front bolts redrilled slightly to one side) and the gearlever is a length of stainless bar welded to the bottom of a 5 speed lever angled forward until it was comfotable for Jo. Only picture I have showing it apart from the one already shown is this. The silver hc with pinto and 5 speed was done a similar way.
