Now explain this to me.
Because of the car cutting out twice, I ordered NEW : dizzy cap, rotor arm, points, condensor, HT leads, plugs.
These came yesterday..... woohoo ??
Last night after work I duely presented at Chez Myrtle to replace the parts.... did so, but not plugs or points, as plugs had not yet arrived, and points seemed fine, also did not want to start playing with them.
Anyway, swopped alll the new oarts in, and tried to start it..... dead.
Followed all the bits, to try eliminate, or isolate the problem, swopping old and new parts till all the new bits and old condensor were on..... JOY.... Fired up.
We then did a test drive of about 8 miles, and litterally back at home, as I went for reverse to park her, she cut out again.... never to start again, at this point I thought sod it.... something else has to be wrong.
Now ordered another condensor off Evilbay, as it was the part originaly suspected.
Any ideas ?
Oh, and off course given time restraints, not going to Santa Pod with her this weekend. However the Taunus Transit will be there ;D

Grizz, the sidevalve engine can sometimes be prone to petrol evaporation due to the pipe from the pump to the carb being so close to heat sources. An old trick was to wrap silver foil around this pipe to deflect heat so not heating up as much. It could also be an electrical problem of course.

So this could be where the 8 miles, and then progressive spluttering/missing comes in once it has performed flawlessly for some way ?? 8 miles, perfectly, and the other day , a couple of trips, then dead ?

Yup that sounds like what happens when my turbo mini gets hot, one of the fuel pipes is close to the manifold and when it's got quite warm it sometimes splutters a bit also struggles to start when hot sometimes too! Certainly sounds like it's worth trying the old foil trick grizz.

Could be crud in the carbitooter as well - it's been stood a long time. Check for spark first with a plug earthed out to the head (carefully!)

PIX TO FOLLOW. Well, Santa Pod with the www.buraser.de FoMoCo Wrecking Crew will always bee a great event. This year was the first time the Transit went up. Saturday we left here, and after one and another thing.... not just our own woes, we ended up stranded 5 miles short of Santa Pod, having picked up an oild leak on the M1, we got to a village at 5 to 12 and bought a £35, 5 liter can of motor oil from Subaru before they closed.... RIPOFF I hear, but I needed it,and guess the needed my money. Calling Oldbus, who along with his (hope I can say this) Gorgeous wife, came to rescue us. He stopped, crawled under the bus and asked for spanners, removing the Oil pressure sender switch. Next up he rummaged in my nuts and bolts tin, found a fine threaded bolt, screwed it in, and I filled the sump with 3.5 liter of liquid gold, started the bus and proceeded to follow is satnav to the pod. We had a great day with all. Today we left at about 3pm, after promising Oldbus and Thorsten not to exceed 85km/h which we did not do at all then. Just after Bluewater on the A2 coastbound, the fanbelt let go (Thorsten had warned me ) 1 hour later the recovery truck picked us up at 6.45pm, and brought us home. Nicola and I laughed so much at ourselves, as we have perfectly good modern dailies, yet we play with these old cars. Thanks to Classic Ford for the weekend.

We went to Classic Ford at Santa Pod in the bus, which actually behaved admirably, considdering it has been off the road the last 20 years, and this was its 1st propper journey up the motorway at 55-60mph avreage, doing 220 miles for the weekend. While out there we did find Myrtle a set of hubcaps for £5, which will need 15 minutes each with the Wenol, buffing them back to shape. The Trim that Jan/Jim sent me got washed last night, and now awaits some polish to be up to standard, then fitting to Myrtle, and all will be good. Also copied the posting I did on Retro Rides: Just a few pics for now, before and after. I will post the content of the weekend when I have had time to edit and select the best ones, and add them to someone else's thread. Anyway, plan was to travel with the Medway Monkeys..... Pic at 08.30 waiting for the group. Ultimately Nicola and I set off at 09.45 on our own, so be able to just drive sensibly slowly. We got as far as about 10 miles from the Pod when I had bought 5 litres of oil, which the bus spat out within 5 miles..... expensive £35's worth of oil then. Perfect place to break down and await rescue. Anyway, broke down called Oldbus to the rescue, and he and Ulla his wife came and sorted it all withing 20 minutes, we then followed them to the Pod for a great weekend. Close to midnight, our first night in the bus..... decided not to pitch the tent for one night. Bloody cold in there still. Sunday just on 3pm we left the Pod with Oldbus and Totti telling us to go slow, which we did, Thorsten also warned about the fanbelt needing to be seen to. OK, so he was right. Bluewater junction.... Fanbelt toast. Home...... What a great weekend it was though. And thanks for those who stopped to offer help. Especially the nice guy in the Cream VW Camper.

Looks like you had an eventful weekend! Excellent weather for breaking down though. What was the reason for the bus spitting out it's oil?

More than 2 hours of polishing with Wenol netts you this. Next up the trim clips, and swop around the hubcaps to get the best set of 4 out of these and the ones on Myrtle.

Last night, some of the Medway Monkeys (4 of them ) led by Jimbob Squarepants AKA Jim cam over to give Myrtle a once over and see what was amis. After lots of poking, changing parts, etc, the fault was traced to a dead Condenser. The car now has new everyting electronic, excluding a coil, which is on my to find list. Much fun and merriment later, with Jim at the centre of Noodles, Nettles and Frenchy's attention, with me stuck between taking Jims side and helping them give him a kicking (he seems used to it  ) the were off at 10pm, to go to their secret bunker to go cut up cars and build streetrods. A public thank you to all, and to Nicola for keeping the tea flowing. We were joined at 9.50 by Dale and his lovely lady from Poddington (Santa Pod) who had brought me some sexy tools I had bought from him some weeks ago. Few pics of the proceedings, which saw Jim drive Myrtle up the street, returning with a verdict of "Fit and Well " Jim being helped by Rodeo Cowboy Nettles. Frenchy and Nettles helping again, with Noodles cranking the power.

hi grizz. I didn't make it to santa pod, I stayed at Billing for the weekend as I wasn't sure how NMR was doing with the cortina. As far as I know that was you I waved at on the M1 as there can't be many of those little vans about. wouldn't be any fun without those little breakdowns to keep you on your toes would it. Mine kept missing every now and again on the way up there. while up there i bought a buzzer for the indicaters as i keep leaving them on and after fitting it she would not start for ages and much fiddling with under dash wires. really really must get a loom kit for her, the wiring is SCARY in there, like a russian helped an Italian to do it!! see you at retro gathering. cheers

Rian! How clean is the 100e? I don't know what you paid for it but it worth every penny from the looks of things. Lucky you for getting the fault sorted. Mine has still got a fault despite it having new EVERYTHING! - but hopefully that will be remedied with a new distributor from Sheffieldcortinacentre. Looking good dude. Are you guys going to RRG?

RR'09 Gathering is deffo on the agenda.
Nicola wants to show off, and we would not miss that one for anything.
It is indeed a very clean car, and we paid a a price that still has us grinning, without twisting the sellers arm.

Yes Alan, I am sure that's why she had nightmares the last few nights. Who remebers the suitcase we got for a quid at the bootfair a few weeks ago ? Loads of markings on it. Printed off some old airline tickets and labels, and pasted them on with wood glues, left in the sun to dry, then 3 coats of clear lacquer. I also bought 2 size 42 inch belts at the Pound shop yesterday. Cut them in 2 and drilled and screwed them into the suitcase, so that they will create the illusion of being strapped to the boot carrier when it gets here from Essex. Whatcha think ?
