We're having a clearout of the field at work, and this little lady is up for the chop: Given that she's terminally rotten having sat in long grass for 7 years, her frilly undercarrage is well beyond saving, needless to say, I've salvaged a fair bit from her to bolster the smurf's build. Also for the chop are these (the 2cv went a while back) I'm using part of the nearest to the camera to solve the rear arch issues, can you guess what it is yet?

My opinion is you should make it mostly standard on the outside, but deck it over some steels. Bit of a sleeper maybe? Cool build anyway, don't see many modded AXs at all really

You've got the parts on the other one to make it a really good sleeper. Can you get round the rear wheel issue by using this to figure out what offset and width wheels you need to be shopping for? If you were to run steels you could run different front and rears to get them tucked nicely.

Well the normal offset is 18-20, I've dropped a et25 bx steelie on the back and that *just* clears, but that's only on the high profile, mega skinny rubber, I had a go at pulling the arches but due to the construction, there just isn't enough give in them.
I'll be losing the skirts in due course as well as the front bumper, but I might have to fit some sort of arch over the front wings as my mot tester isn't too keen on poke.

I'd make it a proper barry wagon. I think it'd upset more people that way rather than looking standard.

My AX GT was made of tinfoil! Surely you can get a bit o' give in the arches and get 'em pulled....... flatten those lips with the vinyl hammer and get a couple of scaffold pipes. Thinner to start then full blown roller - you know it makes sense. Excellent choice of engine - it'll fly!

Its easier on the gts as the panel is flat, this has a lot of curves to it because of the rear door, and I'm needing around 1/4" or more, its not just rubbing the arch, they are actually resting on the tyres.

Mmmm Cut the arch out and weld in about 1/4" of new metal to yours attach the arch back on..? Or possibly get jiggy with the fibergash? Alternatively get some wheels with an offset to suit.

Ford wheels are often 40ish et, get some, and some really skinny rubber, and the pipe trick, and voila, plenty of room for the wheels.

I've something in hand to sort the issue, et40 rims would be rubbing up the inner arch a treat, so I think I'm going for a subtle mod.

Ok so I took temporary custody of this sad little number last week: I have relieved it of a load of parts which are soon to be making their way onto the smurf. Front bumper didn't put up much of a struggle as all the mounts were rotted out: I took the opportunity to get a decent rear bumper and tailgate too (no pics of the parts I removed though :S):

Well since my parent's are having a fresh roof put on the garage, I had to make smurf moveable, so check out my stance! I'm actually quite liking the bx steels look, so I might try and dig out a full set: The back is only this high as I've jammed a block of wood under the bumpstops, you can't move the bloody thing otherwise. Looking nearer finished, but lots of annoying little jobs to do.

Made a little more progress on the aestetics today as I've not had time to pick up the replacement gearlinkages. So to compare, old vs older, I was going to clean the bumper before I fitted it, ok that's a lie, I was never going to clean it. This is the scabby bumeyed crapbox without the front end on, I trial fitted the vtr radiator, its only a little bigger than standard so to save arsing around, I'll fit a new standard one instead. Front end completed with a grille from my rusting in pieces gt, "the purp" Hammerite, it smells bad but covers a skanky panel nicely. The bonnet will shut better once I've refitted the catch, I hope! Another thing I rescued from the condemned ax at work was the door panels, I nearly took the seats but they were soaking wet. Old panel out: 80's tastic panel in: On an aside note, you get big eff off birds round here, I hope this one doesn't take a curse word or it could get messy! I've polished me skulls, its a shame there is a metric boatload of deep scratches on it, but from a mile away, you'd never know it! Coming to the side of the car, I've pulled the sideskirt off, I'm not sure if I'll leave if off or just jetwash the paint off it and refit it in black. OEM look is the way, I found a set of new spree badges in the garage, complete with measurements as to where to put them. The close of play, doesn't she look shite great?

That's really coming along! The BX steels are definitely FTW! They look damn good. Not so enthusiastic about the bonnet - I like the skulls, it's that blue border with it that makes me feel a bit queasy! ;D "Spree" badges are excellent too - it's gonna be embarassing a few unsuspecting folk off the lights is this!

Yeah if you look closely on the pics, you can see red paint peeking through the border on the right hand edge, I'm just not sure if i could fetch the paint of without ruining it.
