It's a shame about the waterpump as you seemed to being having good fun in it. Next time you fill it up, flush the cooling system out and put some red (5 year) antifreeze in. Being OAT, it generally has better lubricants for the water pump (and corrosion additives) compared to what blue anti freeze has in your application and it's not alot more (about £1 more for 3 litres compared to the blue stuff.
Hope you keep enjoying it. I echo the comments about braided lines. My S2 is on braided lines, and it does have good brake feel. I personally (and my mates) haven't had a good experience with EBC pads. Assuming your discs are near the end of their life (they won't dissipate the heat as well) some stock Pagids will be fine or if you can afford them Pagid Blues or Ferodo DS2500s are an awesome all round with reasonable cold bite but superb braking as things get hot.

Hi, I've got exactly the same car as you! A silver 924 Lux! Your's seems to not have a rear spoiler?
These cars really handle, I had an Koni-suspension'd AW11 MR2 before hand and I have to say it feels better. I wasn't expecting it at all, it feels quite heavy but it's really surprising round corners. I parked next to a TT and was also surprised by actually how small they are, they're really tiny. I think it's one of the best cars I've ever owned and don't really want to sell it!

My '44 S2 really surprised me when I first took it hard around a corner. Yes, the backend can be tricky in the wet (especially with Pirelli P6000s all round!) but it's strangely controllable (but they can be tricky on the limit) and besides really carrying speed through a bend, they do feel alive and composed. My 306 GTI-6 didn't really compare to be honest which surprised me somewhat.
I need to stop convincing my mate to buy a 924 LOL.

Great reading the comments people have left. Have a few replies...
Chasr - I hear what you say about the 'red' antifreeze but hadn't heard about it when I bought the fluid. Have used Fuchs Eskimo because I was told that was good, but I don't know how true that is. Greenstuff pads seem to be about £50 and braided hoses just a bit more for a set. I will do a bit of searching around the others you recommended too. Cant decide if spending over £100 upgrading the brakes is money well spent on a £50 car (thought its not really a £50 car is it), probably is but will have to wait for now after the recent spending on fixing it. Mine is also on Pirelli P6000 (205/50 R16) but haven't pushed it too hard yet to have the back end stepping out much, must try harder!
Benlg81 - If it was perfect and you loved driving it why are you breaking it? Unless it was in an accident I suppose that would make sense.
Violet - Yes I recognize PandaSelectas old car, never saw the car its self but had a chat with him about it once. Its quite similar isn't it. No rear spoiler on mine, possible yours has a 944 or 924s rear glass fitted at some time? My rear glass frame is chromed too which I think looks odd given there isn't any other chrome on the car I will probably black it out at some point.

Best of luck I'm sure it'll be fine. Top work too - I know how much of a pain stuck bolt remains can be after doing the pump on mine recently....

18th Dec I was a little worried to see icicles... ...knowing that I had drained the coolant and only refilled it with radiator flush and plain water. Humm these radiator hoses are hard and crunchy inside. Luckily I seem to have got away with it and its now been treated to some antifreeze and radweld.

27th Dec I was milling about at my parents house in my old room before heading back to Leeds where I live. I noticed some old car mags on the shelf and this leaflet fell out... How fluky is it that the only leaflet just happens to have the wheels on my car in it! Mine are the DTM 16"x7.5"

What a motor! I guess you have to expect a few probs on a £50 Porsche. I don't think I could resist it at £100 but £50 is an absolute steal!

I keep over looking these... reckon I'd enjoy one too as they're a similar drivetrain layout to the Volvo 300 series...
Does anywhere do some reasonable insurance for them though?

Looking good. Seen a few of these recently and really makes me miss my old one.
Old enough for classic car insurance as well, I had mine on with Lancaster for peanuts.

Wakey Wakey Sleepy Thread! So after my recent 'My very run down Porsche 924 - What to do?' thread lots of people had made ugly faces while looking at the condition this car has got into. Lots of people voted... ...and there was a split of opinion. So I have sat on it for a couple of weeks and come to the conclusion that it will sell (minus seats and wheels) for about £200 on ebay yet would get about £130 over the weighbridge (and save the hassle). So by tearing in to it to see if it would be a viable track day car I'm only really risking £70. So today I did just that. Front seats out. Rear seat tops out. Rear seats out. Carpet out and center console out. Ah! so the rusty bit I could see from the outside is an unprotected previous repair! Floor, tunnel and arch sound deadening out. It seems solid enough so I think I'm going to carry on and see if I can resolve the starting issue next. -Steve-

The stripdown continues... I have removed the rear wiper, I need to get a rubber bung to block the hole up. I have been chasing wires back to the fuse box and removing as much redundant wiring as possible. Removed: rear wiper wiring rear heated screen wiring + switch electric mirror wiring interior + boot lights wiring inc open door switches stereo & speaker wiring aftermarket central locking motors and wiring I have removed the old MetaSystem immobiliser and re bridged the cut ignition wires. To help get at the wiring I decided to get the dash out. There is a lot of glue and bitumen residue from the sound insulation making it look messy still, I will try some white spirit to see if that gets it off just to make it look a little better. I'm in two minds about removing the heater matrix, I'm not sure if that's a good idea though. I may put the dash back in after a little modification as it holds everything together nicely and isn't very heavy. It also ducts the blower to the front screen for demisting which I probably need to keep. -Steve-

Looking good I would keep the heater in there, a misty screen is the last thing you want when out on the track
