I might be made homeless soon. So am thinking of giving away all my stuff. don't have the time or inclination to ebay that. And anyway. Getting a bus into town to send them away would probably cost more than Id be getting. Ive got 3 normal Raleigh 20s. And a nearly finished R24 frame. And 2 RSWs Got a lot of other bikes and parts too
ach the 20s are a bit scabby. BSA 20s as in the pics above. Blue 20s standard late model complete but going rusty. And have a brown 20 thats a frame and fork. With a cartidge bb in the raleigh cups, as an experiment. Has a SR stumpneck stem in the forks Heres the R24. I was nearly finished extending the down tubes. Its real fiddly filing the tubes though. I got one tube extended, more than in the picture.
Its a R20 with a rear end of a 24" wheeled MTB slipped in.
Ive got some smaller items that I know are worth money. For instance a set of Stronglight 49d cranks that are 9/16th" threaded and I have 34,42,48 and 58 rings for them. They should be worth £50. But Ive just lost all hope about anything. Might be out of the house tommorow. So brother will probably just throw everything out
The story is my mum passed away last december. Me and my 2 brothers live in her house. My 2 sisters have there own houses. The estate is divided into 5. But since the brothers are living in the house, which is counted in the assets. Got a letter recently that my sisters get a good amount each. And since the house is worth more than the share. The brothers owe the estate £3k each. Ive never owed money in my life. Well maybe a tenner till i can get to the bank machine. Weve got the large garden up for sale. Its valued at nearly the value of the house. So that would pay that debt. Got an old couple interested. Hes keen on classic cars. So sounds like a good couple. But will be ages before that get finalised. And everyone will get a cut of the money. So wont be all that much. Weve got an apointment with the solicitors tommorow. I'm going to tell them to sell the house. I cant see why I shouldnt get my full inheritance. My step brother will probably want a fist fight. So I'll just walk away. Ive been told that if I get my name on the house deeds I will then have assets and my Benefits will be stopped. So wouldnt have any income. I'm not sure of that tho. I do know that when the sale of the garden goes through. It might be above the money limit of benefits. Would be enough to live on for a while tho. I'm not too extravagant.
was my Grandfathers who used to use it to go to the pub ;D Since I acquired it off him I've fitted new tyres tidied and painted the mug guards cream. Also ditched the rack on the back. Need to find some period handle bar grips for it next.
I was at the solicitors. My wicked step brother as usual did all the talking. But he was making some sense. About the first time in his life. :/ Hes gonna stay in the house, with my other brother. And they forego the cash that'll come from the sale of the land. So me and my sisters will get a sizeable amount.
I was ready to give him my house keys and just leave. Sleep rough in old abandoned places. I didnt see a way through this.
Now I'm in a happier mood.
He did stipulate that I have to remove my bikes and stuff. Well I can get my sister to take it to the scrap yard and dump in town. Shes got a Transit pickup. Or I could get my freind to sell the better stuff on ebay. Hes sold stuff before. And hes got a van, so could take stuff to town to send them away. I'm not keen on selling stuff online.
Ive been messing with Flicker recently. I found some old photos of my green RSW just after I got it from the bike shop. I'll see if I can add them as it gives image URL or HTML.
Thats a url inbetween the img code words. Bill Gates move aside. I can work a computer too.
And heres a couple of Moultons I used to have. A seperable and a 4 speed. I brush painted the orange one when I was about 14. It had a coaster brake that killed the tyre. I tried 16 x 175 wheels on it. Tyres were quite close to the frame. The blue 4 speed I found behind the unmanned recycling place in the village. I had a wheel barrow of rubbish. So emptied that and put the Moulton on the wheel barrow. ;D It had a cracked swing arm. A common problem on the old Moultons. I never got round to getting it welded. I did rebuild the rear wheel. But it fell of the bench just after I refitted the special 4 speed gear rod, which broke. I sold all my Moultons, including a bent dark blue one that I found 10 feet up a tree, to a man from Edinburgh, I think. He came in a matt black 205. It had a dented bonnet as it had flew up. So he just put it down and hammered some of the dents
I'm sure there was another thread on here somewhere which discussed fitting a yst non-threaded bottom bracket to a twenty but I'm be buggered if I can find it now. Has anyone got it book marked or find the link for me?
just that I bought a bottom bracket in halfods sale on christmas eve.............
MX5 mk1 - now Turbo'd Austin A35 van Suzuki SJ 16v
Ive got a brown Raleigh Twenty that the bike shop gave me when they gave me the green RSW. I had the frame with some bits on it. I got a cartridge BB out of another bike. It had plastic cups. So I fitted the cartridge into the standard Raleigh BB cups. don't know if that'll work. I also had fitted a SR Stumpneck stem. This week I fitted the 20 x 175 3 speed alloys that I was going to fit to my Grifter. The tyres are just old ones. I have a 27.2 to 28.6 shim and fitted that under the alloy 31.8mm seat clamp. Just to see what it looks like.
I did have all the bits to finish it. But threw a lot of bits away. Was going to have stainless mudguards and BMX brakes. would need a cable stop, inner brake wires, a grip and a chain to finish it. Ive still got a twist grip and cable. And brake levers anb calipers
Ive been looking through my photo cds and found some photos of bikes. Although there not Shopper style bikes. I thought they were relative to this thread.
my 3 speed BMX. Its the bike that I originaly put my Polish wheels that are now on my BSA 20. The BMX has a home made seat post, made out of a garden frame thing. SR 422 stem from a Raleigh Burner. Bars from a scooter with the ends extended an inch so I could get chunky MTB levers, SA twist grip and bar ends on them. I think I should have used normal BMX bars. As scooter bars were a bit high. I had recently fitted a bottle dynamo. I had made a bracket that bolted to the holes on the fork drop outs. I bought 180mm cranks, 44 tooth CD type chainring and DX pedals from an advert in Ride BMX magazine. I did a couple of bike club rides on the BMX. The snooty people didnt like that. Especially when I came past them. The pictures taken on new years day about 3 years ago.
Heres a group pic of the 20" wheeled bikes I had.
My Custom Grifter, Custom Puch Mini Sprint, Lil Blue bike, 3 speed BMX and six speed BMX. Lil Blue bike was a kids 15" framed MTB. I narrowed the rear end to take the SA 3 speed wheel. I painted it Ford Capri blue, I got the spray cans cheap at the Glamis extravaganza car show. Its got racer cranks with gear mechs. Front mechs cabled up to a shifter. Rears a chain tensioner. I fitted a Shimano 18tooth cog as it could take a narrow 3/32 chain. But was a little low geared even in 52X18 and 3rd. I would take it to the nearby feild and slither up the paths. Could get it to slide both wheels.
6 speed BMX was another experimental bike. Its got the Shimano 3 speed wheels that I had on my fake chopper. I had got the rear wheel at the dump in the next village. I put it on the bars and used it as a steering wheel on my 5 mile ride home. My fake chopper was a Raleigh Denim. Which is a girls 18" wheeled Shopper bike. I geuss its the girls version of the Commando. I got a push lawnmower handle welded to the frame to act as top tubes. I fitted Mark 2 chopper bars and seat. Alloy cranks and brakes. Painted it black. Was a good bike. But wheel had duff spokes that broke a lot. I hadnt learned about wheel building, then. So just replaced the broken spokes when needed. Think the problem was loose old spokes. I did 5 miles on that bike in 14 minutes once, including a hill and crossing a dual carraigeway with out stopping. That was part of a 20 mile trip. Anyway. Back to the silver BMX. It was a BMX frame that I pushed in some more of my garden steel tubing, then welded it in. So the seat heigh was fixed at my prefered height. But it wasnt strong enough, so got the blue tube on top. I tried to get the front mech to work. But the angle and shortness of the chainstays meant it wasnt happening.
