Hi,
I want one! May be fit BMW disel engine running gear into it!? I wish I have money and space in my garage. There are 2 on ebay at the moment. If I had spare £4k, I would buy it and ask my friend to store it for when I have time!
Cheers Atchi

These are a lovely old bus.....as has already been said that 1725cc lump has to work hard to lug them along, an as a consequence they are VERY thirsty.
Hunter OD gearbox will fit with a modified prop, as will a Humber Hawk diff if you can find one. Economy will be better then. Daddy Damaged had a '69 Commer Autosleeper for years, with those gearing mods it would do 20mpg+ on a run if you were sensible.
Engine swaps are limited by the engine bay being between the seats, and therefore too narrow for most engines. Wasn't there one in Practical Classics last year with a 2-litre C20NE Vauxhall 8-valver in it??

Loving the purchase Baz, if they're still planning that Euro trip for next year for the Imps, you've now got the perfect support wagon.

Engine swaps are limited by the engine bay being between the seats, and therefore too narrow for most engines. You might think that, but this chap has put a V8 in the middle of his! www.v8commer.co.ukI reckon that with creativity, you'd be able to get something worthwhile between the seats. Maybe my dreamed of Audi diesel V6 is a non starter, but something that'll keep up with traffic and get you 40mpg too should be doable. I want a minibus version, or at a pinch a van, and I'll put in the windows......

Any engine conversion will be a long way off in the future. Too much else to do first, maybe a retirement project?

This is lovely. I had a '72 Highwayman about 8 years ago. Great camper, curse word engine. I fancy another one, but would definitely do an engine conversion. Something like a Merc sprinter 5-cyl turbo with an autobox would be perfect.
Enjoy the project and if anyone knows of a similar condition Commer PB for sale by all means PM me details!

Would much more perfer a Commer PB over a VW. Yeah, too right! VW's are such an impractical base for a camper. The engine's in the wrong place. And they're common. This is cool

Well, we got to our overnight stop in Carlisle no problems. Got up early to a rubbish Travelodge breakfast and set off for Tayport. Got to Tayport in beautiful bright sunshine and there was Peggy on the drive. She started first time and I went for a quick drive down the road, no problems.[ ] Andy then noticed that one of the trailer tyres was losing air. We put the spare on which was itself knackered so decided to go to a Kwikfit en route home to get it sorted. I drove Peggy up onto the trailer and we strapped her down good and tight. We then set off for Glenrothes where the Kwikfit guys were brilliant fixing the leaky tyre for free and helping us sort a very loose trailer wheel bearing. A Kwik lunch in McD's across the road and off we went. High winds and driving rain meant we could only manage 45-50mph. We stopped for a break somewhere and Andy noticed a 'cooking' smell and discovered the grease cap was missing from the offending bearing. Most of the grease appeared to have gone and the wheel was hot. What else could we do? We carried on of course! We stopped at Nutsford Services on the M6 at 10pm and there was smoke coming from the bearing. A nearby AA man strongly advised us not to continue. Finally got home about 5am, drove Peggy up the back alley and reversed her into the back garden. She's apparently got one of those straight through exhausts so I hope the neighbours weren't too disturbed! Here's the pics: Crossing the Forth Road Bridge Which of course is next to; There she is Loaded up Stopped at Knutsford for a break Why is this wheel bone dry and hot when the others are wet and cold? A genuinely very nice man to the rescue Simple fix to get the van and trailer home without recovery, remove the wheel from the offending hub and create a 3 wheeled trailer, with no weight on the back it was fine. Up she goes! On board A view of my garden this morning: And finally Peggy's current resting place:
