Hello all
A mate of mine has an '03 Focus and he's looking to ditch his alloys and replace them with wider steels: any suggestions as to what might bolt straight on?

Um, Focus steels from a base model! Don't know about the "wider" part though, might require getting some widened for you. I don't imagine you'd find stock rims from something else which are much wider. I'm sure someone who actually knows what they're on about will correct me shortly though.

03 will be a mk1 focus shape right? Mk1 focus are 4x108 so 4 stud Saab, Peugoet and Citroen will fit. The Pug/Cit ones will be a much lower offset giving a nice stance (et25 iirc), but as for width I don't know I think you'll struggle to find anything over a 6j rim. or any other 4 stud Ford, some mk1/2 Mondeos came with 6x15" steels, other than that 14" steels off an Escort, Sierra etc will bolt on but watch the offset as Focus' are about et45 and most earlier fwd Ford stuff is around et38. Either that or some Weller Wheels, I had a set of 8x15" Wellers in 4x108. Just make sure the offset isnt too crazy the ones I had were et-38! Edit: due to me not being able to spell or use gramma

I made a mental note for future projects of a rent-a-car Focus I saw here recently that was missing it's hub caps. There a reasonable enough set of steel 5 spokes in matt black underneath. I think they were probably about 17" from looking at them from a distance. Could be a cheap source of reasonably decent looking steels.

They are 6.5jx16", IMO they look really cool New Vauxhalls also come with the wheels in the same design. It's amazing how like alloys they look with the cap on!

They come on normal Focus' with 5 spoke hubcaps that make them look like alloys. This is what they look like with the covers on them.......

Wow! That's sneaky! I've seen loads of fords with those and always thought they were alloys!

Yep, camouflaged steels! They're called high-vent steel wheels, I wrote a paper on them at uni. Basically they were more or less invented/promoted by the American Iron and Steel Institute to try and claw back some market share from the alloy wheel! Many of the steel wheel factories in America were going bust and closing, so they developed these. They're comparable in weight and quite a bit cheaper for the manufacturer, so not a bad thing. And not many people can actually pick the difference between a painted plastic hubcap and a painted alloy wheel. Plus, with the plastic covers off, they look hard as nails! It's a win-win in my book.

I reckon you'll struggle getting them on an Escort..or an early Focus come to that pity they'd be great with the rims reversed ;D

thats very clever, any idea what the pcd is? i doubt they will go onto the scimitar hubs without 30mm ish pcd adaptors for the offset anyway.
think they will hold 400hp?

???I reckon you'll struggle getting them on an Escort..or an early Focus come to that That's what comes of not reading the info properly.. forgot the late focuses went 5 stud. Either way shouldnt be too hard tbh. Just a bit of extra work when I get the new engine in. Just affects my choice of what hubs to use!

will a late focus 5 stud hub not fit into the bearings and knuckle of a mk1? we are talking about ford, they may have left everything but the hub pcd alone. i don't really follow the logic of them going to 5 stud as its really a 6 of one half dozen of the other argument.
edit - *face palm* the scimitar is 4 stud as well. thats what you get for spending 12 hours infront of a computer designing a gear box.
