There is a blue HC estate rolling around the Wrexham area with a ford 1.6 diesel bolted to a type 9, goes very well i am told. Only reason a ford unit was used was the availability of cheaper parts (Carlton boxes are not cheap) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Reason being that all the hardcore Viva nuts on here are possibly gonna flame me

Ok then.........I'll let the cat out of the bag..........Two people are winners in this little game, it could be a Isuzu 1.7TD. I'm currently in negotiations over a lump nearby which i hope will do the job, it prob wont be going in for a little while as i will be using a type9 with off-the-shelf vauxhall bellhousing which will money i don't have at the moment. The 1256 will be getting a new head gasket so at least it will be a runner when it gets taken out, and the TD will prob get a spruce up and a little bit of a tweak to make it more RR friendly.
ps. I'm pretty sure they never fitted the 1.7 into the frontera
The Carlton 'box has been considered but due to the size of the thing i'd have to do some big tunnel chopping which aint gonna happen as I don't want to damage the shell to the point it cant be put back standard(fewer and fewer of these cars left in good nick). The Ford 'box will go in with just a little bit of massaging of the top of the tunnel and a new hole for the gearstick which I'd prefer to do.
Carmad - I haven't seen the engine yet so cant comment on the mounts but I'm pretty sure I will have to turn the turbo 180degrees so the downpipe is facing back but don't see that as much of a problem.
pbottomly - If the engine from cheesie did come from a HA van, does that mean that its a low-comp model? the pistons are slightly dished so just wondered.
didnt someone on here get a reasonable way into fitting a 1.7td into a chevette?
aye.. that was me but only got half way there typically another half finished car from me...
will fit easy enough.. the sump was done.. the carlton box fits ok.. engine mounts was easy stuff. and was making a tube manifold for a bigger turbo too wished id finished it really.. damn shame i basically threw away a perfectly good chevette.. feel like a right nodder for doing that.. but nobody wanted to buy it and i had no space.. si
Well, Happy New Year to everyone Had a nice little donation to the cause last night in the form of some gauges for the car
A boost gauge and volt gauge, not a massive fan of the white faces but I'm not one for refusing freebies ;D As for where I'm gonna put them I haven't decided as I'm not gonna use the tacky carbon effect pillar mount but might do sumat with the speedo surround and try and sink them into the piece infront of it...... I shall fiddle with it when I get a chance.
Carmad - If you could get a piccy mate Id be most gratefull
Today I had a little play with the stance of the car, I wanted it lower but not alot, since the front end is right up in the air with only half an engine fitted Ive left that until engine choice has been finalised.
So started on the rear, here is how it sat before:
A little lofty but not as bad as stuff ive had in the past so up in the air, wheels off and took the old springs out. I had a set of brand new -40 lowering springs off a corsa in stock, and the rear ones are more or less a straight bolt-on fit so on they went
And with that the car sat at a much more RR friendly height, can just get a finger in between arch and tyre
Now Ive got to have a go at rolling the arches as it touches on the n/s when compressed but that shouldnt be too much of a problem. I'm now looking into sorting a steering wheel as I'm much of a fan of 20inch steering wheels! Might have a go at making a boss to fit either of my mountney wheels using an old Viva wheel and chopping it up.
