Predictably, the E21's a confusion of my own good intentions and disastrous car-buying ability, but after more money than I'd care to count and several hundreds of hours of labour, it's working, taxed and MoT'd I drove it home from Somerset via the venerable Seth K's place (he kindly loaned me a jack so I could wind the coilovers down) and can safely say that it's redonculous fun to drive. The body's still appalling, though, so I went to www.paintshophorley.co.uk (the guys that painted my V8 Mercedes W123) and took it apart again. So, arrival (please excuse the dreadful numberplate - NOT my choice): Shortly after: Some scrap metal (I have a fiberglass bonnet and new wings coming): Foul sound deadening removed ready for painting: Lots of nice new chrome inserts for the window rubber: I'm off to help prep it on Saturday. There's still LOTS to do if I want to get it match fit and shiny for a trip to Germany next Friday. The pressure's on.

Thanks! They're Rota Grid Vs (merciless copies of Volk's TE37 V) and can be found on Rare Rims' website.

Good work Matt. Glad the bodyworks gonna be sorted by someone with proper skills in that department. I remember how good the Merc looked. Just had my confirmation through for the sprint @ North Weald on April 3rd so I need to finish my race car. Swapped to single headlights too. Just need to find a new race seat in Xtra Lardarse and sort the livery. Also bought a fibreglass bonnet from Mick @ Pristine as the old one is a bit battle scarred. Warning - e21 ownership is addictive!

I'm off to Mick's on Saturday to pick my 'glass bonnet up. Should be good, and it'll replace the godawful rotter on there at the moment.
Yours looks killer. I'm definitely interested in joining you on the sprint. Must pull finger out.

Since leaving my job in the classic car industry I now have time to play with my classic car. Saturday: Ian Taylor's painter took to the BMW like a duck to Hoisin: Still had to remove this: Which I did: Then refitted the back end: More soon.

Hmmm, paint concept could still work you know, without actual branding. Spaced the back wheels some more yet? Probably wants a little more drop....

I am quite liking the focus this project is taking as a whole. I bet it is a hoot to drive. And there was me thinking I would not begin to like E21s...

Sethington: you're absolutely right - it'll still work (main reason for it getting repainted red, to be honest). I don't think I'll bother unless its officially endorsed, though.
ChasR: ta!

Happened a few weeks ago, old chap. But going by the threads that appear here on Sunday evening, I'm not sure it's a terribly good idea to mention my new employer... And yes, Seth is a foul and demanding beast. He also has a good point. I'm waiting till the doors, bonnet and glass gets refitted, then we'll see about ride height. I doubt it'll need much more than a tickle, though. 5mm spacers are doing an admirable job thus far, although bolt-on hubcentrics are on the list. I might have got a set of new rims for it, too, which should spell an end to them altogether. Anyhow, thanks for the interest

What rims are you thinking Matt? I might have a set of 7x15 MiMs wrapped in Toyo888r's or 7x15 Racelines? Both sets are et13 too.

Look what the wind blew in: From www.framptons.net, proper raised-letter reflective number plates. Wheels are ATS classics, Mark. ET-1! I'm good for the MIMs and Racelines, but thanks.

Another quality UK e21! Just so happens there's a magazine feature coming up on UK e21's. Photoshoot in on April 8th in Essex Matt - are you free to come along and represent the 4 pots?
