I hope you got the attention that wanted that you clearly think you deserve. As a result of the brilliant subversion by your rapier like wit, towards what was supposed to be a nice reward for people that had built cool cars, we won't be doing it any more. *Golf Clap* for you.

it took me a while to figure out what you meant, but then i twigged.
i agree, it may have been funny the first time someone did it, but now its a bit pathetic really. i liked the idea of giving props to people who put in the effort on a month by month basis, as when it comes round to awards night, people only tend to remember stuff from the last few months, not neccessarily almost a year ago. it would then have made sense for people receiving one of these rewards to be automatically nom'ed for the R-R awards for that year.
but like you say, buggered up by some peoples half-witted attempts at comedy.

I liked the MOTM idea too. I doubt those who did the spoof ones meant any malice, it was just ill-judged humour I'm sure. It'd be a shame to not do the awards any more, just because of something like this.

Oh I get what ya mean now! Sorry. I must go around with my blinkers on sometimes! But like Benz-boy said, just some folks having a laugh, hardly the end of the world surely?

What is the point if people that feel that don't get nearly enough attention are just going to take the curse word, it devalues the achievement of getting a member of the month banner and frankly makes us not want to bother doing it... So there you go. We were just going to quietly stop doing it,.. but it has narked me enough that I wanted to make the reasons public.

I'm really not trying to rock the boat or cause any kind of controversy, but I don't think that tone of voice is helpful. There's been a lot of talk over the past few months about negativity on the forum and what-have-you, and surely it would help if the modus operandi ( 'Conducting oneself in a positive manner will result in positivity') was led from the top? Obviously it's your forum and you can say what you like, but it does leave a bit of a sour taste when you put these public tellings-off on here. It just sounds a bit petulant. None of my business, of course. Just saying.

Why not PM those involved? It smacks a little of throwing ones toys out of the pram. I don't think anyone would mistake a real award for one of the fakes anyway. Maybe some folks know full well without big ££££ and lots of time and special tools/workshops etc to put into their cars they're never gonna make award winning cars, so happy to have a laugh at their own expence.

Thing is there are people at the other end of this keyboard trying our best to make a good forum for people to enjoy.. but it seems if we get annoyed about something we should put up, shut up and put a brave face on it.
Well.. we do 99% of the time,.. this time... no. We thought this was one of the nicest 'new' things we did round here... but some people seemed to not be happy that the attention wasn't on them for 5 minutes, so decided to turn the idea into a joke... <Christian Bale>Well good, goooood for you and how was it? I hope it was good because it's useless now isn't it?</Christian Bale>.
and yes,.. I'm throwing my toys out the pram rather visibly this time, and yes this will eventually end up in the whinge bin.

Thing is there are people at the other end of this keyboard trying our best to make a good forum for people to enjoy I appreciate that, and I think you do an excellent job of it... but it seems if we get annoyed about something we should put up, shut up and put a brave face on it. ...but I really don't think that's the case, is it? There's a difference between tactfully nipping a problem in the bud and just ranting at everyone. Again, this really isn't any of my business, but it just feels a little uncomfortable to read this kind of thing. Remember when you were at school and someone got spectacularly shouted at by the teacher, leaving you feeling guilty and awkward even if you weren't involved? Yeah, it's like that. It creates an atmosphere.

I don't want to stick my oar in, I've done enough of that recently, but wouldn't it be better for everyone for those who have them in their sigs to have them removed and perhaps PM'd explaining why. I can understand why you'd be annoyed but no point ruining it for others because of a select few.

...but I really don't think that's the case, is it? There's a difference between tactfully nipping a problem in the bud and just ranting at everyone. There were PMs sent to some people ... I get the feeling that sometimes because we deal with most things in a relatively quiet manner round here that it is forgotten that we can get really annoyed by what is suppose to be a hobby. Today is Blue Monday, so I'm taking it as my chance to have a rant.

Fuel to fire etc...
I would prefer the awards to stay, they are a nice touch, and I would say that mildly amusing as the first pseudo-award was, the second one I saw actually peed me off as it then became obvious that it would detract from the value of the award banner.
I think that even the prank posters do not or did not realise these could be awarded to anyone for any reason, car build, community spirit, or charitable action.
Hotwire, I would hope that those who added their self awarded banners will voluntarily remove them, and allow you to get back to pointing out stuff that makes a difference on here, and continue to "Knight" those deserving of it. To me its just a nice touch, and an accolade from within. Adding those nominees to the pool for member of the year could be a great idea too.

[quote author=dbizzle board=general thread=74167 post=988335 time= Maybe some folks know full well without big ££££ and lots of time and special tools/workshops etc to put into their cars they're never gonna make award winning cars, so happy to have a laugh at their own expence. load of rubbish. thats simply NOT what these 'awards' were about. in no way are they '1ups' for the 'big boys' or the 'in crowd' who spend a lot of money/their time/whatever on building show winning cars. they're about giving props to the little guy for having the determination to put some real effort into their project and make it something special, 9 times out of 10 on a menial budget or with no descernable prior skills. thats whay i liked them!!! idiots doing spoof awards like 'kno8head of the month nov 09' just serve to cheapen the efforts of those who have got off their ass and actually earnt their award by doing something above and beyond what they have previously been capable of. i feel they gave a lot of people on here something to aspire to as well- an award people were actually capable of winnging even thpugh they don't own a show car. i remember back in my pre-forum days when i first lowered a car, did a good bit of welding, or fitted a set of 'out-of-the-box' wheels to my car, doing something different that made me stand out from my friends with modded cars, it was my friends reactions that made it feel good- recieving recognition for something that was an achivement to me as i was pushing my boundaries. thats what these awards were about. sorry about the rambling rant, but i side totally with david- if i was trying to do something 'nice' for someone else who is ultimately a stranger, and someone cheapened my efforts by taking the curse word out of them, id be annoyed too........

I wanted one of those. Only I was going to earn mine properly. I guess I'll have to settle for a blue peter badge for my squeezy bottle rocket. Mind you, nothing the pranksters/numpties do will stop those of us who can from building awesome cars and posting awesome posts.
