Hay Guys and Gals ive been around here for ages just never got round to introducing my self properly!
Well I found my caddy on here! its a 1990 1.6 petrol. I got it as a none runner and found out that the points had burnt out. Went to GSF first thing the next morning and got some in fitted them when I tryed it it fired up first time. It was sold as a unfinnished project it didnt look to far off but as I got it back and started looking around I found plenty to be doing!
Here it is when I went to look at it:
Then when I got it home:
Got it in the Garage and up on stands to have a proper look around:
A nice hole missing!
Removed all the hooks from the bed I dident now what to do with them because I only had 5 and the n/s/r hook was missing and dident fit in because the hole was made over the chassis rail so you couldent get the bolts in! You can tell wich is missing by the pic:
Then the bed sanding took place! and decided to plate the centre two up and weld one in to the rear one because they will come in handy! then time for the filler and more sanding! then schultz'd the bed for abit of protection!
I had since done more filling and sanding down the side to build the dints back up the best we could!
seats out and that horid carpet removed bit of a interior pic:
wing off to be painted and have a look behind and under seal:
Then started with the primer! First coat:
Then undersealed the underneath:
My home made spare wheel carryer! it works :B
then now the wings were off I schutlz'd the backs:
In the mean time I had being trying to decide on a colour but this was proving difficult I had looked at lodes of colours and couldn't Imagen them on the caddy or I wasn't to keen and so on! I did want it to be black but everyone seems to have black it looks good but I wanted something different. I tried a couple of bits on the caddy just to try and help make my mind up abit:
In the prosess of this the white paint my dad found on the shelf, had gone off and bubbled up the paint and made a right mess! so we had to sand that all off again!
By that time I had decided it was going to be orange, so set off to go and get the paint when on the way I saw a new fiesta st in this green and that totaly changed my mind, it was going that colour!
Sprayed on to see the out come!
Then it got respryed yellow again! and time for the other side. Yep more sanding a fillering not as much this time tho!
I was browsing ebay one night and spotted a 1.6 mk2 golf 5speed at £50 with about half an hour to go so I watched that and I bidded on it and ended up winning it cheap so my dad drove that back and said it drove perfect it go up to speed n just cruised back with out a problem so we decided to put that engine and box in mine so me and a mate removed the engine and cleaned it up then painted it.
This is my mate (Known as Dorris) hard at it :B
it doesent look half bad now wich is more than I can say for the garage:
you would never of thort there was I bike in there :B
The caddy was then ready to go to my dads yard where he was going to spray it so theres more space and he can do the whole thing in one. ready for its travels (sorry for poor pic):
once at the yard I pulled the engine out and got the other engine at the side,so I could build the golf engine up with all the best bits off both engines:
Ready to go in!
with the engine ready I then set about cleaning the bay up abit from this:
To this painted:
engine back in and gear box fitted I got the gear box mount off a 5speed diesel I had abit of trouble with the gear linkages but we extended one of the linkeges so I could get all the gears abit of a pain but managed to get it done:
it all got wet flatted then tacked off ready for painting
with the yellow being underneath we noticed that the colour was colse and you could see the yellow coming through so we got some white primer and went over with that first so the green could come out its best!
Started with the top coat!
had some problems with the paint reacting and bubbling up :/
First time out side with the paint!
Got the grill and bumper on looking good!
now the bonnets on and back out in the sun for some pics
now were ready for home!
