the clocks going back seems to have left me massively unmotivated on school nights.
all i want to do, after a long day in a freezing metal barn, is knock off early, go home and sit in the warm
this only leaves the weekends to have a fiddle about
last weekend was taken up with what should have been a quick trip to my brothers to get a nice metal bench i had had my eye on.
apparently it was decided the fee for the bench was to also remove a very substantial (home built) forge at the same time.
this took all afternoon to cut into bits that we could lift into the van
your local grinding disc supplier will go out of business. ;D ;D
my local abrasives supplier will be holidaying somewhere nice this year
10mm plate for the lose
;D
the worst thing is i had to cut up the bench to get it round the side of my brothers house
sunday i spent kicking the van full of tat into the yard and chopping it up with my plasma.
this went slowly as i have not bothered to fit a 16a socket so the fuse blew in the plug every 6" or so ;D
then it got cold and dark.
for a week.
this saturday i popped to the unit, mostly to avoid subjecting my family to the awful hangover i was suffering from
i spent nearly all day
being grumpy and drinking coffee finishing the cutting at 1/2 power
at the same time paul was finishing what has seemed to be the worlds longest blow over. 2 months between coats
today we operated split shifts. paul had a shuffle about with his cars in the morning and in the afternoon i (joy of joys
) disassembled the (insert rude words here) temporary
spray booth/tent.
i then pushed the spit over to the otherside of the unit , swept up all the bits that had fallen off the car
and swivelled it back into (reversed) position.
my next job was to finish sorting the scrap and re-weld the legs onto the new bench.
the lovely clear space was too much of a temptation so i dumped all the curse word in front of pauls cars and set about the beam with a slitting disc
the offside scuttle corner is very weldy
closer inspection shows it to consist of a thin layer of rust over a nice thick layer of rust held together by the gravitational field of the factory seam sealer.
you may notice the hole in the wing rail which i repaired earlier.
the bad voice says its rusted away since i started
but i'm hoping its because i didnt poke hard enough the first time
i ground the welds flat and then cut around the front return/drip channel.
when i tried to drill out the spotwelds that hold the channel to the a post, the drill just pushed through without touching the trigger
i cut out the three layers at the wingtop , patched the inner wing panel and then welded a thicker bit of zintec in to replace the other 2 layers (big root gap and welder on max
)
i then squirted the scuttle cavity full of antirust paint.
my attention was then drawn to my shoddy half finished repair to the bottom of the b post
dots joined up
i had real trouble getting position but hopefully it should look better with a bit of grinding
pot roasted rib of beef calling so back to (a nice spacious) bed 'til next weekend
total time spent ( drinking coffee and thinking about woodburners) 183.75 hours
total spend £1460.84 (not including todays ebay bargains or replacing the 13a fuses removed from almost every plug in the unit ;D )
