Bit more progress, I've been replacing the sleepers on the set of points into the wagon shed. I encountered a slightly odd problem in that there was a bees nest under one of the old sleepers. I quite like bees so I did not want to destroy the nest so in the end I had to very carefully replace the old sleeper whilst avoiding getting stung. The points are of much lighter construction to the rest of the railway so the rails don't really line up properly so there will have to be some brackets of some sort to make them line up.

It was originally made for simply moving logs around to get to the sawbench. The track was bought from a local factory which was closing down which is why the gauge is slightly odd, and there was more track than was needed. Things perhaps got slightly carried away and the track was extended and a locomotive was built and so on. The track is not as long as I remembered, but I was a lot younger last time I saw the full extent of the railway!

I have finished the wagon shed points now, which should be the last major bit of track work done. It looks a bit shabby, but the rail used for the point is much lighter than the rest of the track so nothing really lines up very well, but it is fine for a low speed point which the locomotive won't be going over. I took the pump wagon for a run and it derailed on a section of track I had just dug out which is annoying as the section of track is on metal sleepers so should be a lot more sound. Hopefully it will just be a case of hitting it with a sledgehammer to get it right again. Otherwise just quite a bit of digging as you can see:

Dug out some of the wagons from the shed and rearranged them so I can get to one of the tipper wagons. It is quite awkward to get a wheelbarrow around some bits so it should make things easier for packing in the sleepers. It was right at the back of the shed and I had to cut down a small tree growing through it so I could get it out!

Excellent work, coming on nicely.
i'd be tempted to just send the pump wagon through with people holding strimmers off the side to trim it all back ;D

Annoyingly part of the track is two inches too wide, which is a lot in railway terms, so I am having to sort that before anything can really happen. Also, part of the recently cleared area is also too wide which is strange as it is metal sleepers. I don't want to get the locomotive going until I am sure the track is safe. Being crushed underwater by a boiling hot locomotive is not preferable!

Hey mate, love reading your updates, reminded me of this contraption from the states (I know it's standard gauge but the idea of a little motorised trolley appeals to me) wrybread.com/hobo/

Not done anymore recently, It's far too cold outside and the ground is frozen solid so I can't dig anything out. It's just started raining so hopefully work can continue soon.

Hey mate, love reading your updates, reminded me of this contraption from the states (I know it's standard gauge but the idea of a little motorised trolley appeals to me) wrybread.com/hobo/sad to see those diesels abandoned like that, especially that streamlined one (F series?) if it helps rupert, its a balmy 31 degrees here and it's about 11pm. Would you like me to send you some sunshine?

Here are some pics of how the railway currently is. The ground is totally frozen so there is no way I can do any digging. At least it is stopping it from getting anymore overgrown. The offending section of track:
