My first meet and a nice variety of vehicles. As was expected, most of the people there seemed to know one another but I did find one or two folks willing to talk with me, which was nice. If anyone sees their car here and wants a bigger picture, just PM me. I haven't uploaded all the pictures (I took 99!) so there's a good chance if your car isn't here I do have a picture of it, again, just PM me. Slimmed content down to 45 images. Vauxhall Chevette Ford Capri V8 Honda (I forget the model), one of my favourite cars there. Ford Capri V6. A young lady called Donna owns this beauty. Triumph 2000 about to get mugged. Triumph 2000 with smaller sibling TR7 Vauxhall Chevette. Very tidy. Opel Ascona. Most of the evening it was surrounded by impressed looking men. Ford Sierra RS Cosworth Ford Escort Drophead, Ford Cube and Ford Transit. Ford Cube & Tonka12's Granada - retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=82302Ford Transit Dragvan. Not as vulgar looking as it should have been, but *very* nice all the same. Ford Capri, with a dent. VW Polo Coupé Ford Escort rat. Ford Fiesta, mint in colour but not condition. Nissan Micra in satin blue. Brought a thunderstorm with it. VW Caddy. Very straight and very green. Just right. VW Golf Drophead Ford Escort, in nearly standard and boy racer. Toyota Celica (I think) that took me ages to get a sleek photo of. Every other attempt I made this car just looked fat. Ford Escort trio. Ford Cortina, very late arrival. Had the tiniest Minilite wheels.

2nd August 2010Rather than put a new thread out there for every meet, I'm just going to keep updating this one with pictures from the Meadowhall meet whenever I go. Excellent diversity this time around so there's a lot of pictures with few duplications. Low VW Polo Mk2F breadvan with a badgeless grille. Capri porn. Rover P6. Toyota Starlet & Rover P6. That little Starlet was awesome and the P6 was beautifully finished. The Starlet again. Bright blue panel van Fiesta. Bright red Fiesta. Bright yellow Fiesta. Brown interior. Nomnom. One of the cars of the day for me, a stunning Vauxhall Viva estate. Ford Anglia, Mk1 Escort and Mk2 Escort. Greeeeeeeeeeeen Escort. I love this car, just to see what's been written on it. Frustratingly the chalks were INSIDE the car where we could see but not get at. Meanie. Very low Golf. Low Polo and Golf Rtlkyuubi's satin blue menace. I love photographing this car, it seems to like my camera. Mk2 Ford Escort in beige with a vinyl roof is about as retro as you can get. Or there's always this Mk2 Transit with sidepipes and a stonking engine. Happy Triumph 2000. I was urged by the owner (Dangerous Dave) not to photograph this Polo. As usual, I didn't listen... I'm just bias that way. Sheffieldcortinacentre's Timewarp Cortina. Excellent, someone finally (found and) took on a Mk1 Sierra estate. Did a pretty good job too. BMW estate. Quite low. Apparently, drift cars are supposed to do what this one did, but when he drove it, slowly, to the sound of constantly squealing tyres when cornering and a constantly bouncing rear end I thought it looked unsafe. I don't know enough about drift cars to know whether or not this is normal, but to my inexperienced eye it did look scary. Volvo 340. Belongs to Mat_91, thanks to Gem for letting me know that. Very nicely detailed Mazda in my favourite colour scheme. Oh, it's that retro car again. I was seriously distracted when this Ford Zephyr wafted in. Ford Fiesta, de-chavved Granada and a Golf. Smart Ford Escort. Wide Peugeot Chopper-lowrider-pushbike jobby. Looked really good, but he wouldn't stay still so my picture is a bit shonky. Ford Anglia and Transit Ford Fiesta, Opel Ascona and Ford Anglia The Anglia is really nicely detailed, with some great period details. Porsche, Starlet, Rover. A different bright red Fiesta. Some more Capri porn. And that's yer lot.

2nd August 2010This white one. At first, I was impressed at how low this BMW was. Then he drove it, slowly, to the sound of constantly squealing tyres when cornering and a constantly bouncing rear end. Watching it was actually a little bit scary, it just looked unsafe. What else do you expect from a drift car with a welded diff or did you not notice that? Next time don't be so judgemental on this car and others. Volvo 340. I think this one is on the forum, I'm not sure. That is Mat_91.

Sheffieldcortinacentre - Annoyed with myself for not getting a shot of your model on the dashboard, but I think I got all the other important bits. Dangerous Dave and I have similar music tastes, it's true. Hopefully he gets his coke bottle sorted out soon too, sounds like a bit of a job.
Gem - I don't know anything about drift cars except that they do exactly what they say on the tin. I was expressing my concern about what appeared to be an unsafely modified car rather than being judgemental for the sake of it. I've a fairly open mind when it comes to cars - your car your ride is definitely something I practice as well as preach - but when something looks, sounds or smells broken or unsafe I'm apt to say something about it. Even for a drift car, I didn't think bouncing and squealing at 5-15mph was normal, but if it is then more fool me.

If it was that unsafe, I wouldn't take my son out in it.

Out of genuine interest, why does it do what it does? I'm not particularly au fait with the set up on the back end of a drift car that makes it different to a normal car, but I imagine just having a welded diff doesn't affect camber, tracking and suspension which I assume all have to be/are altered to do the job of drifting in a controlled fashion.
I will say the first thing I noticed was how impressively low it was, that's why I took a photograph of it in the first place, I wasn't deliberately having a stab at you or the car.

I didn't expect my remark to cause such offence, that worries me somewhat since I try to remain neutral as much as possible online since I know how quickly things can spiral out of all proportion. Please let me state that my concerns were over a car that I thought had only been lowered massively and that, when I saw and heard it pull away, seemed to be mechanically unsound. However, since yourself and Gem have assured me it is perfectly normal and safe for it to behave in the way it does I shall have to accept that as fact since I know next to nothing about drift cars and their habits at low speed. So, please accept my apology for any offence caused and understand that I was merely expressing my concerns for the safety of fellow car enthusiasts, not having a spiteful stab at someone else's build. I'm always willing to be educated about the foibles of other people's cars, the more I know the less likely it is I'll cause offence and/or jump to the wrong conclusion, as I have here evidently.

Easy boys, Volksangyl was just asking. I always think of a situation like this as an opportunity for education rather than a bollocking. Also I think the comment may have been about my car since Volks said the driver was going slowly. The silver estate is mine and I think it's actually more vicious than Skidkid's white one since my suspension bushes are pretty worn. The squeaking, banging and shaking only really happens at low speeds in tight turns (like in car parks). Once you get faster and on to more sweeping corners the tyres scrub more than squeak, and the welded diff is what's to blame. Unfortunately having a diff that locks tight is priority number one for a drift car and welding is cheaper than 2-way diffs from Japan. Standard LSDs are rubbish which is why we don't use them, I will take 100% lock and a car that people think is about to break over 25% lock and something that is nicer to drive. A locked diff comes with many drawbacks, it hammers the back suspension, it'll drop driveshafts and it gets a lot of funny looks. But the upside is it drifts beautifully. On E30s (and this works on most RWD cars too) we lower the rear to get more static camber, as you can imagine drifting is about the harshest thing you can do to the rear tyres, we need a lot of camber just to get flat wear on the cheapo balloon tyres most of us pull off scrap piles. Since many people are too broke/cheap to buy camber kits we chop the springs and put up with the bad points. Mine's a little lower thanks to spare wheels and a diff in the boot. Volks, don't feel bad about causing offence, drifters are a notoriously touchy crew. As what I've written below will prove... "Quite" low? "QUITE" low?! I think I've got the lowest E30 in Sheffield mate! Or at least I do when the Never-Lift crew haven't headed up here. It's _very_ low.

Thanks for the pics volksangyl, I really need to get myself a dslr, Ive lost all mojo to use my point and click.
Also lads and ladies, can you keep it a bit more civilized when you leave (you can still play traffic light grand prix out on the main road.) But people/police/shop owners are going to bunch us in with the curse word (like that new astra that was flying around) and were going to get kicked off or get some very unwanted police attention.
