Dear Reader if you are of a nervous disposition then please look away now as today I have had a rather pleasant day with number one son and his unorthodox 'skills'. You may remember him and his Super Brake-freeing Sledgehammer of Doom and the only other part of his tool kit, an angle grinder, from the early days of Goddess disassembly. The Machine Mart engine crane was too weedy and the fork truck fork extensions didn't fit so we had to improvise. At the off and Rocco, the junkyard dog, rushes off to guard the gate First, get the electrics sorted Cursing and swearing played a large part of the day Rad and firetruck horn out Rad frame, carb and ancillaries off or disconnected. Lots of room underneath Setting up the gearbox support infrastructure Now we discover that we can't drop the box with the gearlever attached as it fouls a crossmember Solution is to take the top of the gearbox off along with the lever Now bring in the gearbox jack (pump truck) Time to drop the front crossmember Crossmember out Engine balanced on a strong box Introducing the lifting device Forks under lip of sump. Forks will be kept there with a ratchet strap. Et voila. We were damn lucky the forks were just long enough. The bush mechanic The hole left The masterclass Palleted up for the buyer Sadly I've lost two donor trucks over the last week so if anyone knows of a good Daf 45 of pre-2000 vintage with a 130-150bhp Cummins BT6 then let me know.

Does it have to be in a truck? I'm a member of a facebook group about cummins landies, and engines come up on there quite often. I'll put the link up in a mo' so you can join it, if you fancy asking them.

Also, look in Withams military auctions - I don't know what your budget is, but our 4x4 daf flatbed cost about 2 grand with about 20,000 miles on it...

Ahh bodgetastic engineering, and there is nothing wrong with an angry grinder and BFH as a complete tool kit!
Will be watching this unfold eagerly!
Go on the tube of You and search for. 'Thedieselstop'
He has loads of vids of him rebuilding Cummins 6BT motors, with good tips and advice.
Don't know if our uk spec ones suffer from the 'killer dowel pin' issues like their spec ones do, but its worth checking out.

I joined that Facebook site. It's very helpful.
I'm sure that you'll find a suitable donor. I've just bought an "X" plate Daf 45 150 for £900, so they are out there.

Yeah, they're pretty good for it. And if they can shoehorn one into a 90, getting one into yours shouldn't be too tricky!

What about the wanted sections on Rods n Sods and possibly even Volkszone?
Many times other forums have stuff on offer, or people have multiple interests.

I shall spread my net further. There's a lightly used 1998 flatbed with 86k on the clock (peanuts for a Cummins) but it's in the middle of Aberdeenshire. Two day road trip anyone?

Two day road trip anyone? load something on the back and make it a paying trip? That's some really excellent advice as trailers and horse trailers (don't ask) are real cheap up in Hibernia BUT it seems I am the now proud(ish) owner of a 1/4 million mile P reg Daf 45-130 tipper. A bit more than I wanted to pay but I've already disposed of the tipper back end and made a sixth of the purchase price back and got free delivery to the Goddesses yard next week. I feel more bodgetastic forktruckery coming on

Excellent.
Mine is going to donate its air-over-hydraulic brakes too, as well as the complete fuel system. Best of luck with it, I'm watching with great interest.

Darren, Thanks for the heads-up. Before the Cummins I could have used it to follow the Goddess and possibly developed road-to-road refuelling so it didn't have to stop to tank up Cheers, Ian
