Look uo 'thedieselstop' on youtube,he rebuilds cummins and tunes them up,very good info.

Well, I've read this from start to finish now, every page & post. It took me about a week because of interuptions like work & sleep, family etc but it was worth it. Really a very impressive build thread & a fantastic result. Hats off man, this kind of build is something to be really proud of & I'm sure that it will attract some people with a few bob to get you to do another one for them! I'm looking forward to seeing & hearing all about this latest engine swap.

They tune these things right up in the states, there's one I've seen on a dyno that's making about 1500hp at the wheels! Even without modifying the internals, you can get up around 300hp with little more than a bigger turbo and injectors, and having the pump tweaked. You can change the fuel pin and that will give you another 40 horses straight away without doung anyghing else! Look uo 'thedieselstop' on youtube,he rebuilds cummins and tunes them up,very good info. Water meth works very very well on big diesels especially higher up the rev range when more fuelling is needed.. Gentlemen, thank you for all the good advice but let us not forget the cardboard brakes

At 9am it was pouring down and I hate working outside so hey-ho off we set to get wet however the weather gods were with us and by 10am, after the necessary bacon sarnie and caffeine injection we approached the little DAF with some trepidation. The engine had to come out today. We have given ourselves a deadline for a show in August but we can't name it as it will jinx it. First job was to start her so we knew we had a good 'un. The guy I bought it off swore she was as sweet as a nut but maybe he had his fingers crossed. First problem was that we had removed the binnacle for sale last week so we learnt how to hotwire a Cummins from Dangerous. Not bad at all! Very little smoke, good tickover and no suspicious rattles We tested the clutch and gearbox with Dangerous volunteering to be the 45 degree man with the cab still tilted. We decided not to go in all gung-ho and to strip her methodically so my first job was the humongous exhaust box. An hour later we had lots of stuff off While No.1 Son and I did the the simple spannering Dangerous used his talents to get the recalcitrant servo/master cylinder off the Goodess. Mega complicated '50s technology Struggling with the radiator and intercooler Now for the lift. Forktruck good but telehandler would have been better Setting up Ready? The lift. For those of a nervous disposition No. 1 Son has forktruck licences for everything below straddle carriers. The strops were rated to 1.6 tonnes each and were secured on the forks with bodgetastic g-cramps. Dangerous and I stood back at a safe distance shouting both encouragement and obscenities simultaneously. Nearly The video On the pallet Clear up, put the pallets away, polish the tools and off for some beers and a curry. Nearly a perfect day

Are you planning to use that battery carrier?

Depends if we stay 24volt or move to 12 volt. Need a good battery carrier guv'nor? Mine is reparable, but a bit manky. Don't weigh yours in if you decide not to use it. We should make lists of what we do/don't use, and have a swap about at the end.

That box is big enough to smuggle a Mexican in! While those straps may be rated, a few more loops around the tines wouldn't have gone astray. Also wouldn't have required the forks to lift as high either, haha.

Excellent progress,!! Would you be needing the air receivers by any chance??

Also wouldn't have required the forks to lift as high either, haha. Straps were a worry but needed to be that long due to the truck mast fouling the cab at the start of the lift. It's the first really big back box I've ever had so I spent many hours dreaming how I could mount it at the back of the bed with a chrome tail pipe poking out. Then common sense and the lifting bed intervened

Excellent progress,!! Would you be needing the air receivers by any chance?? Possibly. We may just pipe air to my portable tank so they could be redundant. For speed we're keeping the vacuum over hydraulics so looking into a late transit alternator with the the integral vacuum pump to provide the suck. It's an easy way to get vacuum but would definitely mean moving to 12 volt. That means a new starter but the Landie boys have that sorted.

Looking like a great project there.
Those Cummins do have some pull. I remember one in a 3500 dodge that had had the usual fuel pump 'attention'. It pulled just as hard with 4tons behind it as it did unloaded. Unreal!

Yeah, tweaking the engine doesn't mean you have to drive like your hair's on fire, but it does mean you'll be able to steam up big hills without breaking a sweat. Don't 6bts have a vac pump as an ancillary? We put air of hydro brakes on a mate's REO, and that did make an appreciable difference, even with the stock toffee drums. And that's being hauled around by a cummins E10...

Don't 6bts have a vac pump as an ancillary? Sorry if it's available at the pedal I'll use it. That's the law. As for vacuum ancillary the Cummins Landie boys say no.
