Wow, it makes me feel ill that you paid £1900 for that. I have been trying to get another 911/912 for ages, like..really trying and I have considered paying that much for a bare shell, not even rolling and needing work! Seeing what you did with the 944, and what teaboy has done with his 911 was one of the reasons I said 'I will buy it without even seeing it' to my friend who mentioned it to me. He now has remorse that he didn't buy it, it's solid, complete running gear, transaxle, brakes, interior. Just minus the bit that makes it go. Sourced a set of downdraft webers for it already, will get an aircooled engine pieced together over the coming year or so, it's not going to be as deep a project as the Datsun, simply as it doesn't need to be, it'll be a rolling restoration. If it makes you feel better, it was $3500, but the Canadian dollar has taken an absolute nosedive lately, meaning it 'seems' cheap in old money maybe that takes the sting away, just a little sumpcracker? I've already decided on wheels...and seats...kind of my 'signature' I guess anyway, into storage it goes, I have another lady that needs some serious love and time spending on. Spent some dough on proper lighting last night, and a heater, and instant foamed all the gaps in the garage last night, finally I will be able to see the paint flaws. Doing the other side of the garage tonight so I can get the paint on This is the before...after photo coming later tonight. New lights I hate sketchy wiring, so I'm doing it right! I should call out Mystery Machine ...and apologise for not getting a 510 like I said I would...but this was an opportunity that I'd have been mad to pass up on..speaking of which, get in touch buddy, it's been too long.

So...I went to go see the ugly autopsy of my Legacy GTs now not so beating heart...it's ugly. The block... Cylinder wall on No.2 doesn't feel great..heck...it's got a notch in it!....but the cross hatch is still in all the cylinders.. Heads... Look okay...just A LOT of carbon.. Oh...yeah...YEAH...I think this just *might* be the problem ] This is frustrating as hell. In my mind, I totally thought the ringlands had cracked. Nope. The piston rings were just not doing their job AT ALL with all the burning oil...caked onto the combustion face of the piston. Basically, the full service history that the car came with...wasn't worth the paper it was written on. Had the car been serviced properly, with good oil, and not taken to the hokey fraudsters at Jiffy Lube that the PO had done...I likely wouldn't have this problem. So, to explain, the rings haven't been working, hell, they weren't even round, this had lead to some seriously heavy piston slap...as you can see, gouging against the side of the cylinder wall. So, what's next? Replace all the rubber oil hoses which now want to shatter like glass they're so brittle, crack the block and replace the main bearings, the loss of turbo pressure when the turbo went would have starved them of oil, so even though they haven't gone yet, they will shortly, makes sense to replace them now. Replace the valve gaskets, valve seals, clean up both cylinder heads, fix the janky no.2 cylinder, replace the pistons with some forged CP's (stock sized) and get the thing back together. Once that's done an AOS system can go in so I can do away with the PCV completely. One saving grace, is although I've been missing my wagon for a week now, the shop it's being sorted in...knows their stuff. They have only two employees, they offered me beers late yesterday when I went to go see the state of the LGT...and then they led me through a door...hidden away in the other side of the shop, was the following... A fire damaged 355 that had donated it's front clip to another 355 being repaired And this...a beautiful 308 GTS that needed new head gaskets. The LGT is in safe hands, what Mark doesn't know about Subarus isn't worth knowing.

I really can't believe that 912 story. So, to put things shortly, you have a 912 without an engine, and know a place that really knows how to work on Subaru flat 4/6 engines? Come ooooooooon you know it makes sense It's begging for it!!

Yes you should rebuild the GT motor and put it in the Porsche.................... .....................runs for cover Is the GT a 2.0 or a 2.5 ? I have a set of very lightly used Wiseco pistons for a 2.5 - complete with brand new rings. Going cheap but transit time from Aus to Can might be a killer for you

Oh dear, 911s - wasn't expecting this in here Currently my n°1 source of moneys - fixing 911s imported from Canada xD And dare I say it here & now? They'r truly hatefull things. But your entry fee into 911 world was incredibly low. Maybe you are to enjoy it - I for once don't. Well - the entry fee will have quadruppeld in no time anyway - there's no such thing as a cheap Porker Put your concentration on the Z - yes? Can't wait to see this nearing the finish line! And all looks like you'r getting there! Keep up the good work!

Nice update. Looks like things are starting to come together nicely.
What's the Z's engine situation now?

Always thought it was weird how they put the luggage rack so far back on the car... I guess it's for weight distribution...

Nice update. Looks like things are starting to come together nicely. What's the Z's engine situation now? See above Block has had it's final hone after the overbore, he was going to start line honing the block and caps just after I left. Head just needs cleaning and putting together now he's cut the valve seats. Crank, rods, pistons, flywheel, damper...etc. Are all dissappearing tomorrow for balancing.
