Thanks to si and M-tech for a good day out... for the most part - turns out the cav isn't actually toooo bad in restrospect (I was expecting worse!) 115bhp is a bit better than I was expecting for a knackered engine with a book value of 136bhp, a good baseline figure to compare to in the future after some tinkering - either way, the sound of the straight 6 was beautiful (if I do say so myself ) Thanks also go to si and steve, without their antics heading to the pub I wouldn't have discovered the sticky bonnet cable f*&k up - OOPS - you'll be pleased to know that cable-tie spec hinges and grandad spec driving got it home with no troubles. Sadly the hinges are completely fubared and are not a bolt on bolt-off variety (some grinder and mig action may be necessary)... The main scuttle panel I have pretty much fixed, but the bonnet is very worse for wear too, though I may be able to cut some of the strengthening off and repair the damage then reweld the strengther back on.... we'll see what the next few days bring Nice to put some names to faces, and had a really good day out! Cheers all

thanks to everybody that turned up today for a cracking day.. the only thing that went wrong was a certain mk1 cavalier that the bonnet decided it didnt want to be closed when driving hope you get it sorted man its a great car.. craigs hopes were dashed as it actually lost power with the webber (mind you it was just plonked on with no jet changes so theres prob a fair amout to be made yet) steves twincam viva showed its potential with a nice flat torque curve that would put some v8's to shame... mine did no better than its previous attempt even though there was more smoke ;D not sure why but it dropped to only 1/2 bar of boost on the dyno after an initial 1.1bar spike (although thats strange as it holds over a bar on the street always??) any ideas people?? an r1 engined mini showed it was a real wepon with a million revs and almost 150hp.... and our very own butters little polo won the award for the lowest power opf the day.(although the prize of a 6pack of brew i actually still owe him after not getting up in time and not visiting the offy ) remind me bloke! there was a lot of cool cars even the strangest looking landrover v8 with comical "rear dyno wheels" due to my lack of any organisation i got no pics ata all but i beleve butters had a few and hardcore had some too.. please add any photos people. and a big thanks to hardcore for driving the mighty distance all to put a million mile merc through its paces.. all in all a great day and the road behaviour/antics to the pub after were great (well appart for one said cavalier ) so thank you all who drove up and had a go it wouldnet happen without you.. the next one I'm planning something special.. but thats next year so you will all have to wait ;D si

Thanks to Si and the rest of the gang for a entertaining day. as before my FTO was pants and needs some investigation as to where my BHP has gone. So next time I think I will bring the Fiat chinq for a bit of fun. Also I am glad to here that the cavalier made it back ok, it was quite impressive seeing it disappear in a cloud of tyre smoke with the bonnet up in the air.

yeah, a big thanks again to si and all the rest for a great day out - aside from the mishap, I put 150 mile round trip on the cavalier and the engine (and car) seems to be running pretty well in general since only just having been put back on the road.

Yep, good to put a few more faces to names. Had to rev the old girl up a bit to keep up but it was most enjoyable.
