To be fair, I wouldnt list anything atm... Its a bit slow.... I cant imagine someone buying a car for a friend for crimbo.... I would have to disagree with that based on how much interest I just got with my sale. I'll also be selling two more cars very soon (MK1 MR2 and one of the Hustler 6's) which will be listed on the 12th Dec as well as a Saab convertible for a friend next week (convertibles this time of the year are usually a no-no but I'm willing to give it my best shot ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) All will be 99p NR.

I start all my stuff at 99p with no reserve, i've never been dissapointed with the final price. To many people try and be tricky or clever on ebay, if you want the convenience of using it then you have to trust to luck a bit, sometimes you do well and sometimes you don't. i hate all the mucking about, if i see something i want i just bid what i want to pay for it, and if i have something to sell, it goes on for 99p start.

^^^ i disagree ^^^ if the B.I.N is 1750 then the reserve is obviously less. added to which the other 4 sec's which were on at the same time were either non runners or 5k plus, with less spec and more miles than mine. nothing psychological there, as has been said, they were trying to get it for nothing. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Always start the auction at the lowest you'd take and plaster NO RESERVE everywhere , a phsycological green light as we all like a bargain. I personally use terms "like sold from the first bid". This method has never failed me,you may have to wait for any bids but why would you want 20 useless bids and no sale ??.This way its a smaller listing fee also.

generally 99p no res, take it from someone whos got 1500 feedbacks. if its something a bit obscure, get an emergency bid ready from a friend if necessary, but first bid is always the hardest, so start it at 99p and let the chancers get the ball rolling for you and the real bidders will follow

I've yet to have the balls to list a car with no reserve, but I have observed stuff with no reserve seems to go well on there. My only worry is that you can't pull it/edit it at all within the last 24hrs, Yeah you can get a mate to bid but if they win don't you get hit with the end fee?

I agree with the previous comments on the psychological value of putting it on with a low start and no reserve; of course people do want to get a bargain, but they also have a budget. The low starting price will get their interest, in the hope they'll get it for cheap, but they'll still bid up to whatever they think it's worth.
And you can always pull the listing before the end if it doesn't look like you're going to get as much as you wanted.

How do you pull it at the end? last car I listed I couldn't touch the listing at all in the last 24hrs (not even post questions on there) which was annoying as I had a buyer I was willing to end it for. luckily he bid to the reserve. maybe I was missing something?

you can pull any item at anytime from ebay, you have to be able to or what would happen if something got stolen? broken or caught fire for instance, having said that i hink its wrong, if its up for auction it should stay there, if you don't like the possibility of getting less money than you think your items worth then don't use an auction site, there are plenty of places to advertise a normal sale.

Last time I advertised(7 weeks ago) I pulled the auction a day early, your entitled to do it up to 12hrs before the auction ends,if you google it it takes you to a direct link to eBay,that's what I used. All it did was warn me that I was likely to lose money on it.I think you can remove it later if you have no bids? Going back to the ops original question,99p no reserve is deffo the way to go.I've tried all methods and that's the only one that works, people aren't even interested otherwise. Got to say it really annoys me on eBay when people say they "don't know what they want for it".absolute rubbish,so if it brought £1.00 you'd sell it?yeah right!!if someone offered you about £200 more than you thought you'd get for it,you'd sell it,human nature I'm afraid!!!

Sold my Rascal in 24hrs, T4 camper in 3 days & my 2004 bmw in 2 weeks (had been on autotrader 1 month with no interest!) *edit, thats time taken from advertising to cash in my pocket to, no faffing ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) £6k in your pocket is scarry though lol.

If you must use ebay, then i always go with the buy it now set to a smidge more than you would actually like for it and 'Best Offer'.
that way people know what you want for it and can make offers if they want it a bit cheaper and you get serious buyers who turn up and pay cash..
The whole bidding thing is a joke now. Just messers and teenagers..

As an aside to the main topic, it seems ending an auction in the last 12 hours isn't as simple as some thought "You can't end a listing less than 12 hours before the end of the listing if the item has a winning bid: * You may cancel bids, but not end the item unless you are selling the item to the high bidder. To do this, go to the End My Listing Early form and select "Sell to the high bidder". * You can't add to or change the item description. If the item becomes unavailable during the last 12 hours of the auction (for example, you break it) you must contact the high bidder or buyer and explain what happened. You can get a Final Value Fee Credit if you and the buyer must confirm you mutually agreed to withdraw from the purchase." I didn't know that. From here pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/end_early.html

Normally just a whole load of messers on ebay. bang it on gumtree, pistonheads, forums and anywhere that'll let you advertise for cheap or free!! All of which are IMO rubbish. Most listings sites suck. Unless you want to talk to Nigerian royalty all day. Forums are fine so long as you get anything more than "if only I hadn't just bought a jam sandwich and you live closer to me an my nan hadn't died 2 years ago then I'd deffo have that off ya mate" I have to say my only experiance of fixed price and offers was dissapointing. I only had one offer which was a lot less than I wanted and I ended taking as no sniffs at all on forums, Pistonheds, etc. I don't know why peolpe have such bother with eBay. I find its OK, I have 920 feedback. I've had only a couple of things ever which people didn't pay for and had to be relisted.

Agree I think ebay works. Generally I'm selling sub 1k cars that I've already bought a replacement for so need it gone. Stick up for 99p, you know in 7/10days it will be over and collected generally promptly.
Generally get more for them on ebay than on forums if you can be bothered to take photos of the car with an actual camera and write more than four lines. I've seen several car ads where title was simply "car"!
Having tried to sell the Rover and the MGB on classic car listing sites I got no end of people not turning up for viewings, or emailing asking silly questions etc.
Ebay buyers in my experience seem very good, shocked by how few want to view the car though which can be handy as you get less waiting around. As a buyer if I saw a car and couldn't view before auction end I might have a punt, maybe win it and take your chance. You wouldn't do that for classic car listing site.

You're trying to pigeon holing all ebay users into one type of person. That just won't work everybody is different.
Personally, I just stick my top bid in in the dieing seconds. Bidding before that just bumps the price up.
How I sell depends what I'm selling. Simple as.

I've sold a couple of cars with a 99p start and no reserve and they have both gone for more than I would have expected, and a potential buy it now price.
