No offence taken fella. Seems there's a fair bit of media interest in this car and hopefully it'll be getting a feature in one of the mags as soon as it's finished. That's not my motive for the build but it's always nice to get things seen. dbdb - yeah the manifolds are to replace the mild steel TWR one's which were rusted away. It's an off-the-shelf item from a so-called specialist and was best part of £600. I then had to have it altered to fit properly by Zero exhausts, who built that lovely system. It's absolutely stunning and almost a shame its hidden away under the car. Hopefully, the respray was finished today and I'll have some new pics tomorrow sometime. It's then off to the trimmer next week and the dyno the week after. I'm having trouble getting the jet sizes for the 45's though. I just need a base line to start from so that we can work on optimising things once it's running. I'm told I should see somewhere between 260 and 280 brake and enough torque to spin small planets! ;D Thanks for headsup re mag - bought it.

What was the cause of the engine rattle? Great car-looking forward to seeing it completed.

It doesn't surprise me that the manifold is so expensive. There is nothing available 'off the shelf' for my car, so I suspect one would be outside my price range. I'm glad there is so much interest in your car. It must be a real handfull with that much power though - even the standard 323i was known as a fiesty beast. That is the thing with the older sports car. They're not sanitised; the excitement flows from an element of fear, tamed by skill ...you hope! David

Polaris silver. I think it's just the light making it look odd? Goes to the trimmer on Wednesday.

Mark. Does your engine rebuild include a Schrick cam? Only reason for asking is I got one in my E12 & have been told to get it running properly you have to have the dizzy altered to get the timing correct & get the most from the cam. H&H ignition did mine & it works lovely.

Sort of, yes. It's actually a Schrick profile but made by Cat Camshafts.
How much did they charge you? Have you had it on a dyno?
I've got to have the 45's jetted yet too.

Can't remember off hand,(£120-00ish) I'll dig the receipt out & let you know. Yeah once the engine had been put back together the garage who did the work had it on the rollers, again can't remember what the figures were. I'll fetch that a the same time & let you know tomorrow.

OK found the paperwork. Max horsepower at the wheels 170 BHP @ 5750 rpm. This was before I had the exhaust done. I also used the same 'specialist' for the manifold that had to be modified to fit!! Cost for dizzy recalibration was £105-00 inc VAT & P&P

Apart from the interior trim I want to lay the wires for the period Pioneer ICE install. I would like the head unit updated with an i-Pod jack though. Any suggestions people? Great build, been liking reading your progress. These people might be able to help with your I-Pod jack. www.classiccarstereo.co.uk/classic-car-audio.html

Thanks guys. Did you feel much difference in performance once you'd fitted the 6 branch & system Simon? I know M30's benefit from being able to breath more easily. Once the car is finally home again and in one piece, I'll send the dizzy off for some fettling. I'm pretty sure the carbs are going to need jetting and setting up anyway but I'm struggling to find someone who really seems to know what they're doing when it comes to triple 45's. Thanks bosshog! I've fired off an e-mail asking if they'll sort my head unit for me. Mind you, I think I'll spend more time listening to the induction roar than my i-pod! The TWR finally goes off to the trimmer today! At last! I'm hoping I can get across to photograph the process and see the transformation for myself. I really want to get the car to some shows this year. It's been stuck away in one barn or another for the past 20 odd years, been broken for spares, been re-assembled, stripped for racing and now, finally, restored to it's former glory. It really deserves to be used and shown. I also want to take it to the Sharknose Meet in Holland. The e21 has a really strong following in Europe and till recently we have lagged behind in the UK. Over the past year or so though, some really nice e21's have been built and the e21 is growing more and more popular. There are even a few due to hit the UK race circuits this year too! www.sharknosemeeting.com/Anyone fancy being part of a UK convoy? If anyone knows a Weber specialist who could jet and set up my triples please say!
