Hi guys and gals.
I work next to a scrap yard and every now and again something interesting will turn up in our car park before it gets crushed. Yesterday brought this, a 1972 rover P5 3500. I haven't had a good poke at it yet but have taken some pictures that i'l post up when I get home.
On brief inspection it doesn't look too bad. O/s/f inner arch is crusty. It all looks complete. Brakes are seized and I don't know anything about the engine.
It was last on the road in 2008. Is something like this worth saving? I might go and see how much they want for it before they declare it scrap.

If it's cheap enough, buy it anyway. It'll aways make its money back. Now make with piccies! Chris

surely a 1972 would be a P6? P5 and P6 were made concurrently. P5 were not discontinued 'til mid '73.

Depending on the price / condition, it'll be worth it! P5's are awesome cars.

What would a rough price be? The way I see it, the cheeper it is the more I can spend on it. I don't really want to spend more than a hundred quid, but the owner needs it gone from our yard!

Go to the P5 club website and read the buying tips... P5's are really expensive to restore if theyve rotted badly...

Well, I had to have a poke around it with a torch. All the inner arches, both sills and n/s/r quarter is shot big style. Opened the back n/s door to find the inner arch hanging out with rivited repair panels attached. I didn't dare get underneath or pop the bonet. It's too much work for me.
If anyone is genuinely interested in having it for parts etc, pm me and i'l give you my number. It won't be here long, but I can save it for someone if they need it!

interesting fact, despite the P5 being taken out of production in 1973 you will find later ones occasionally. The civil service used them and when they were dioscontinued they were concerned there were no other cars suitable for thier needs so they bought 500 or so of them and wareghoused them. Then as an older P5 was retired or wrecked they brought another out of storage and registered it and away they went. Apparently you can find P5s as late as maybe the early 1980s through this route. No idea how many have survived. Interesting curiosity. I think Marget Thatcher got a brand new one when she was elected in 1979.

Definately a P5. Interior drivers seat has a rip, other wise quite useable!
