I have had my 911 for about ten years I think Been all over in it. Le Mans, Nurburgring, Barnsley etc. Done a few jobs on it. Rear anti roll bar bracket broke off The bit where it is welded to was rusty so I had to fix that. I cut it out, this part is infact a triple skin. Made a bit to repair it. And a bit for the outer skin All welded together. Then fitted Wevo steel ARB mounts. and painted with poly bushes and ARB powder coated. The clutch cable went, or so I thought. Turned out the pedal crank had worn out and the clevis pulled through. I was just going to weld it up and re drill it but I got carried away and re did the pedal box Whilst it was up on the stands in the drive some plonker dropped a scaffold pole on the wing Luckily he was insured so I got a new wing. On 3.2 Carreras there are indicator repeaters on the wing. They look just tacked on and frankly rubbish. I could have just left them off but that would have been too easy. What they really need is to be recessed into the wing. On my travels I noticed that the 944 has the same indicators and they are recessed, so I got some bits from the scrappy. I'll show you what I did with them later. Thanks for looking.

Welcome That's a nice looking car. I would love a 911 of this vintage. So much better looking than the newer versions. Looks like you've done some nice mods on it too.

My indicator mod, fit this bit on. So, what would you do with six hundred quids worth of new wing? Cut a hole in it of course. Then trim & shape the bit 'till it fits And weld it in Look at that, hardly worth the bother, but I like it. As the car was off the road I took the engine/box out to rebuild the gearbox. Whilst doing that I noticed that the engine tin was in a bad way. Now this stuff costs an absolute fortune Luckily for me this bit was not available, so I had to fix it. There was a heat shield to protect the crank sensors I decided to modify the design to fit better around my SSI heat exchangers. This is it half way through Then welded onto the repaired tinwork Repaired another bit of the tin More in a bit

I've always wanted a 70's or early 80's 911 and white always seems to suit them. Seeing owners actually work on their own cars makes me want one all the more! It's just the stories about the early gearboxes that still put me off.
Good work mate.

Nice work, neat welding, what equipment do you use? Love these older 911's especially in the white and black!

Nice work, neat welding, what equipment do you use? I have this mig, an Erfi and this tig, or wig as it says on it. Should be ok for when all my hair falls out. (it has started) It's just the stories about the early gearboxes that still put me off. There is a lot of BS written and spoken about the 915 'box. A worn out one is truly awful but a good one is a joy to use. Mine has a Wevo shifter with a longer stick, which though expensive improves the shift 100%. In fact, best thing I have fitted to the car.

Beautiful Porsche. That shape is the one I prefer. And some very cool workmanship going on there too.

For a while I was thinking about how I would like my 911 to be. What i really wanted was a semi lightweight hot rod. I wanted my 911 to be a sports car, not a luxury car. I want to be subtle about the things I do to it, so that if you didn't know then you would not notice. If you knew a bit about them you might think that there is something different here, but what is it? Time to loose some of the fat. Off the car at least, I think the belly is here to stay. I managed to get hold of a set of windey windows, RS leather door straps and Wevo door handle. Lost the doorbins and heavy door furniture. Door card will get recovered, this is prototype. So, tried my new winder and I rattled my fingers on the dash It turns out that for '86 and on you need shorter winders. These have a 959 part number and cost me a ton for the pair I lost the heavy electic mirrors and welded up the holes lost the headlight washers and welded up the holes on the bumper Who needs electrically adjusted seats in a sports car? They weigh loads so have to go. Got some of these instead. Recaro SPGs which need trimming to suit. After a bit of a search I found some proper retro Porsche cloth. It is called Pascha and it is bad for the eyes. Just having the cushions done in this. I fancy another set done in tartan for when I want a change. lost the centre console It is loads better without it, much more space. The hazzard switch was in the console, found a space for it here. Have you ever tried to find a RHD 3.2 Carrera with no sunroof? Let me give you some advice.........don't bother looking. It came as standard and you had to ask them not to fit it if you did not want one. Obviously the red braces types wanted every extra there was.... Elecric sunroofs are heavy and not only that the weight is right up at the top where you do not want it. It had to go. I'll tell you how I got rid later, but it involved taking a grinder to the roof.

I love the Paul Stephens modified cars. I want an orange lightweight built up as you seem to be doing yours.

Teaboy -> Your car looks great and I love your style. Getting stuck in and modifying. I had a 1989 Carrera 3.2 not long ago, pic to prove: I joined the PCGB and they told me to treat the car with kid gloves. In one year it moved about 5k miles and cost a small fortune to keep on the road. I needed new wings and kidney bowl replacements....... Happy to loose the car and buy a 944 turbo instead :-). Nice to see you tinkering with what is a £15k car...... ETA: Can you get rid of the sunroof on my 944?

It's great to see someone doing the work on one of these themselves and modifying it too. I always imagine that it's the sort of car you'd have to take to a Specialist.
Brilliant.
