The BDA was a cracking engine, never let me down once in the 4 years I ran it, though it did require rebuilds every 1200 miles (or every two years). That's also why the rev counter in the car went to car 10 It was always fun watching people come up to it and peering underneath wondering why it could power slide Certainly nice to see its still around rallying.

Blimey, that's a bit special. Welcome! Indeed. Looks like great fun. I'm intrigued by the registration? Reshelled Escort or was is a Mk1 shell that had a new front end?

My first car was a c reg mk2 fiesta diesel - C570 KNH It was my Mum's first car as well, when I was a kid. She had it from 1988 onwards. We went all over Europe in it 4 up with the spare wheel turned upside down and filled with extra packing and a roof rack as well when I was about 12. It was the car that took me to get my GCSE results a week late (holiday). It was the first car I ever drove on the public road, and the car I passed my driving test in, then it was given to me as an 18th Birthday present It was rusty & with the help of a mate's uncle I changed the front door for a secondhand one, both rear wheel arches & repaired the valances & resprayed them. The shagged metal bumpers were changed for black plastic ones. The cylinder head was skimmed & fitted with new valves & even had a bit of porting done on it by a mate of my dad's who is a diesel engineer. I frigged the fuel pump about as well and managed to make it a fair bit faster - 13 seconds to 60 instead of 18 on the stopwatch & nearly 100mpg at 45mph in 5th gear. I learned how to work on cars from my mk2 - I even kept it when I had other cars as well, and did my first mods when it got XR2 brakes, suspension & wheels. I did over 50,000 miles in the car, including driving to France, Holland, Germany and Scotland, and all the way to Cumbria with a 14 foot canoe on the roof! After I'd owned it for about 4 years, and it had been in the family for a decade, it was stolen from the roadside in Liverpool and burned out. I was absoutely gutted, 100% never felt the same way about any other car since.

I totally understand that story and was nodding at every line. Thats exactly how I am with my Fiesta (granted its a mk3 and has never really got past the bad mods stage d'oh!) There is just something about your first car...... Have some very nice mk2's as pennance for my rambling Thats my first car! i brought that , sold it, brought it back, sold it, it got smashed up, i brought it back and repaired it, sold it to someone who lives in barry who put a 1.6 cvh in it, he then sold it and someones put a 2 litre in it now heres it when i owned it i did this to it it left my possesion looking like this he made it look like this sold it and the new owner now made it look like this, havent herd anything about it in a while though :[ i do miss it, but I'm afraid I'm a mk1 guy through and through

The only photo that I have of my old one, loved it to bits. Bought it in 1996, sold it in 1998. Whoever bought it ran it around for a while without tax (which I got done for - taught me to fill out the V5 properly...), and then didn't appear to do anything with it. Shame as it had just had a new engine in it...
