I got the headlight from Roadhouse who were very quick and efficient. That's all fitted and looks fab. BUT I need a new exhaust, and Roadhouse don't have them. Will other exhausts fit? Are exhausts a standard-ish sort of thing, like tyres? Where is a good place to start looking? Thanks, Suzanne Yes, exhausts are just long pieces of pipe really, and you can graft in a cat if you need one. There are exhaust fabricating specialists in every big town - the yellow pages should turn a few up. Speak to one about making you a new exhaust. If you only need a small section, most small garages could sort that out.

I'm back again with more problems with the darn thing! I finally got someone to make a new exhaust for it and trundled off to get it plated and it has failed on some NEW things. It now needs a new sump gasket - where do you get one of those for a thirty year old lorry, please?
Also the headlight I so proudly bought from Roadhouse kicks off the light in the wrong direction. In the machine thingy, the pattern is perfect, but points the wrong way. Any ideas for a solution on this?
Any ideas would be very welcome, please, as I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Hi tora I've got a 1983 407d sorned at the moment but it was the only one on the road for the whole of 2015 I work for a Mercedes garage and served my apprenticeship on these vehicles obtaining spares for most items has been relatively easy as there are still a lot of these vehicles in Germany and spares can be ordered from a main dealer.Ive just refurbished the front axle ( kingpins ,Spring bushes etc) and its undergoing bodywork at the moment ,I look forward to hearing about your 407d and hope it will be on the road soon.

If it was me I'd buy an old w210 with a 606 in it, strip the engine and transmission out, put a mech pump on it with a boost actuated wastage and a trans controller. Would not be at all surprised if the engine mounts lined up.
