I know this thread hasn't been updated for 6 years but being a recent driver and a recent classic owner, just wanted to add my experiences and get a take on things.
Me: 40 years old, been driving just over a year at time of post, owner of a business, single, non-home owner, no NCB but no curse word on my license either.
The Car: 1988 Nissan Sunny with a few cosmetic modifications, daily driver, garage'd, owned since September 2016
My current insurance was through Compare the Market and is exhorbitant but..well, my car's nice so so be it.
I went through the list that was originally posted and got a mixed response,
Peter James: Would only insure if the car was doing 3000 Miles a year max – they actually referred me to Adrian Flux
Adrian Flux: Really helpful and gave me two quotes - Fully Comp for £1395, and 3rd Party, Fire & Theft (with windscreen cover) for £784.99
Footman James: This was the insurer suggested by the fella I bought the car from. Weird one this as last year when I phoned them up, they said that the car had too many mods. Just now, they said that they didn't class the Sunny as a classic vehicle
.
Herts Insurance: Really helpful as well - ask for George if you try them - they wanted to match Adrian Flux and couldn't on the Fully Comp but did offer 3rd Party, Fire & Theft (with windscreen cover) for £783
Graham Sykes: Nice discussion but no quote - think maybe my situation wasn't right - "leave it with me..". Also pointed out that maybe I should stay with the current insurer to the end of the current policy to get my 1 year NCB.
Sureterm - their assumed criteria ask that the car be kept at the address - my garage, while only 2 minutes walk away is a different address.
Heritage - Heritage say on their website that classic car insurance counts "If you drive less than 5,000 miles a year and your classic car isn’t a daily drive" - so, no to that
Competition - couldn't see how my car would fit into their competition or sports car categories, so ignored that one.
So, at this point, I'm looking at either Adrian Flux or Herts Insurance, and wondering whether the extra £600 for fully comp is worth it. I would get back about that much from my current policy though, so maybe it's worth it to have the Right to Salvage terms and such like in my policy.
