well, not much going on just going wrong as usual! went to check the fluids today as i do every weekend (unless a cloud of steam or pool of oil has appeared in the meantime) and had no coolant at all, so topped it up and saw 3 pressure leaks, 1 from the main hose which seems to go from the bulkhead (heater matrix maybe) to the throttle body...the next in a smaller pipe which i think is the inlet to the water-heating for the throttle body, and lastly from a small gasket where that pipe and its outlet-y partner join the main body! great! what with it being a bank holiday, and discovering all this at 4pm, i had to bodge it, like most of my bodges unless it goes wrong again it will remain permanent lol... had to remove the throttle body and repair the main pipe as best as possible, will have to find a new bit once things are open again!!! nothing to do with the coolant leak, but the main vacuum (i think, I'm awful with engines) pipe that goes to just before the butterfly on the throttle body was split too, so that got taped! the tesco bag is to try and stop my immobiliser box being drenched by the leak by the way! had to just tighten the screws and silicone the gasket and hope for the best... all back together, and cold air feed fitted since last update... shes still a bit drippy, but at least i know whats going on, and i always keep some spare water! still got the trailing arm bushes and front a/r/b droplinks waiting to go on, and on the look out for some wheels...

well, after a month of trouble free motoring (new record woop) in which i got the trailing arm bushes and drop links done, shes finally gone pop again, this time just a joiner hose that split so i bodged it up and made it the rest of the way home! (scored the rubber pipe with wet and dry, then tank tape/leccy tape/tank tape/leccy tape wrap best thing i ever did was put a tool kit in the car) pics to follow! but here is my pledge: by the gathering this car WILL be lowered, stripped and have decent tyres on!!! and generally be more interesting!!!!!!!!!!!on the plus side, ive ordered nice red silicone hoses to replace as many old ones as possible, as they are systematically going pop! heres todays adventures: same old same old great bit of pipe its meant to go here... took the metal pipe off and cleaned on the roadside tape-tastic time re-assemble and done! note the other bodged hoses lol deepest joy! i do love the old girl though, shes a cracker for about 22 days a month lol!!!

heres a shocker....i spent money on it!!!! got a loan from the 'rents to sort the running issues out, so had plugs, leads, coil, and a good check over. basically the water leaks from the throttle body had soaked the dizzy, corroded the connections and made the king lead arc out at the coil. with that fixed (and the old plugs showed she was fuelling nicely) the stalling issue was fixed by a bit of internet research and a stepper motor reset, jobs a goodun! just the new rad to go in now... next step was to start on the weight saving, which also meant i could check for water leaks, welding and traveller wiring hehe was surprised to find welding on both sides, not because its a strange place (they all go there) but because the exterior paint is all nice and metallic, no stonechip, no bumpy bits, this was obviously done well! speakers had seen better days, thought they sounded rubbish! quite a neat touch, though id have to get the grinder out but the whole parcel shelf support/rear seatback support/speaker mount unbolted and came out! just the headlining to go, oh and the rear wiper assembly, doesnt work anyway! ride height fail my mrs loved the living room when she got in! then i went out and put the engine back in my mates fiesta... off out for some more stripping now!

as the sun came out, so did the toolboxes! she had been running fine since the new electrics were installed, however the rad still needed adressing and the prep for the retro rides gathering needed to start in earnest didnt get a stupid amount of pics as was busy! but here goes: 1st things 1st, rear wiper never worked so junked that and the motor and linkage, was a pig to do as you cant fit a socket between the spoiler and bolts, so managed to get the socket on and spin it with a screwdriver wedged in the hole that the ball bit on the ratchet normally goes in lol with that clunky peice of curse word gone, I started on stripping the front end of the car down, I really should have read up on it first, as I thought it was bumper off > headlamps out, but in fact its the other way round, I took an age dicking about before I worked it out my amazing rad with the top frame held on with cable ties! wrenched out what was left of my original air intake, and kept it as its a handy little scoop tbh... can you guess my next job whacked the headlamp back in to check it didnt foul, used the rubber bump stop holes in the front panel... was fine! so started drilling, kinda messed my sticker up tho stopped for a well deserved KFC at this point, however if id seen the future I wouldnt have wasted the time lol...cos next...the rad!!! you would think this was an easy job right?! heres some quality merchandise for ya, good as new fan mount had literally rusted right off, taking the top of the rad with it, I'm amazed it was holding water!!!! long story short, we then refitted the rad about 4 times, as the temp sensor wouldn't seal! I ended up doing an epic bodge by cutting a rubber grommets lid off to become an o-ring! with that, and a load of black silicone yog, it finally worked! but then re-installing the headlamps I knocked the king lead and wondered why it wouldnt start! was very close to hammering the curse word out of it lol on payday this month...tyres and suspension

When i was a kid everyone wanted VTR's and GTI 106's but i've always had a soft spot for these. I think it's the overlooked/ underdog status of them. That and i kinda like Rovers

excellent car man, ...I love the screaming honda B or is it d series twin cam? in the 216GTi which I'v had 2. the last one wad 7 years ago, had 38000 miles from new an old man had it, never took it out in the rain, 6 weeks later a WOMAN IN A PEUGEOT 206 RAMMED IN THE BACK OF ME AT 60 ON THE MOTORWAY! by the way if you ever need spares there's a guy in Bolton who specialises in Rover cars don't remember the name of the yard now but I can get it for you if you need it.

didnt set out to do anything tonight, but i was peeling the veg for dinner (I'm so rock and roll) and realised 'oo i have a sharp knife, and still have some foamy sound deadening stuff in the car' so after dinner i went and hacked that out, that then revealed some big heater piping thing that ducted air to the rear seat passengers (pointless now!) and a load more messy wiring, so had a quick tidy and put my dash on a diet too! this is my dash as it was (sold the stereo a while back now!) removed the console surround, removed the cigarette lighter/stereo slot/ashtray bit, removed the huge hot air duct thing, re-installed! gave my 2 mascots a new home too lol some of the removed bits... i do hope to chop the dash in half at some point but I'm not just hacking around theres too much wiring! looking foward to this weekend IF its dry cos that means the lowering stick will finally hit my car

cheers mate jamex -40mms although they have already gone a bit more (maybe cos the big 2.0 is a heavy lump?) was worried about the damping rates but the gti springs were pretty much the same stiffness as these anyway so its all good

i had a stroke of luck, unfortunately caused by someone elses misfortune, but still, I'm here to thank not gloat! guy (tatio on this site) had purchased a 216gti, which unfortunately met a sticky end between a tractor and a brick wall, i thought he had scrapped the car on sunday, however i got a call yesterday to say i could have a pick at it, but it had to be that night! so off i went, picking him up on the way, and went on the scrounge! found the car, poor thing looks ok from the back, right?! oops. look at the nice condition rims i got compared to the skanky corroded things on my car... i now have 4 nice condition alloys, 2 spare alloys, 7 centrecaps (although I'm not keen on them but still) a spare set of rear spats, a new boot catch and... rubber dash mat black dash insert to replace the wood thing! so thats a result! and thankyou very much to guy, and also its another one of those times where a site like retro rides means people help each other out, the internet FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!
