a bit of subtle weight loss today! my central locking barely worked (it made up its own mind) and i havent had a stereo for god knows how long now, so in my quest for lightness i stripped the doorcards, de-speakered and de-central-lockinged the doors! not gonna save any weight making up different doorcards, and i would have ditched the 'leccy windows but they arent the type where you can bolt a hand crank on the regulator and lose the motor, its all on the side ah well, its a few kilos saved, and it all adds up! also in other dull news, fitted the boot catch i whipped off guys dead gti, no more rattly / opening 1 inch over big bumps bootlid doorcard off door guts speaker and central locking gubbins removed cast plastic hefty door pocket removed refitted and slightly trimmer got a few bits to do at the weekend if i get time, starting to enjoy her now!!!

finally a nice dry weekend! although yesterday i was busy barry-ing up my little brother in laws corsa (tinted lights anyone hehe) but today i finally got round to sorting my interior out a bit! here it is at the start of play, half grey, half black, a bit scabby and uninspiring... gave it all a nice scotch over and a blowover in satin black... i wanted to put in some yellow touches to match my harnesses, and thought id try it on my tools as they are on show by the spare wheel...so primered them up and the spare wheel, erm...massive twisty bolt thing (whatever they are actually called lol) the yellow is actually a nice deep yellow but sun / camera phone don't do it justice then whacked the harness in too... obviously the spare wheel will have a good clean soon, but I'm happy with the look overall, smartened up a lot i.m.o!!! oh and yes, the outside needs a clean too

Haven't looked at this for a while, looks great Love the idea of the graphics, these are exactly what I had planned for the 205 Think it'll look really good on the Rover as they're a similar shape! Think the wheels should stay silver though

thought it's time to bung a quick update in for the old girl! hasnt been as much to say since she stopped breaking down all the time (cue an immense engine fail now i've said that hehe ) anyway since the last update the main thing was going to the gathering WOOP WOOP heres a few snaps from there: no track action due to a paperwork fail on my part either way that engine bay pic leads me on to something, since the car was lowered i've had to lose my cold air feed for the filter as all it did was scoop puddles into the engine bay theres not particularly anywhere to run another as the front is all boxed in and metal! so since then ive been trying to sort it out a bit as notice the difference on say a colder day, and I mean a big difference, so realised heat soak / filter placement was affecting power... BUT i've been a busy boy recently... helping my mate mike collect and strip out yet more zetec engines for various old fords... talking of old fords, my mate mark just got an awesome zephyr with some nice patina and a tasty twin carb manifold (running 1 carb lol) and randomly enough my crayfish got sick but then moulted and was fine but today I eventually got to tackle the issue, and, me being me, started with the most ghetto tuning part ever...guttering joiners!!!! win! anyway, chopped it to the right sizes and adjusted to fit... gave it all a trim up, sand and polish so it should flow nice ^^^ after that pic obviously, then mated it up to my filter and heatshield... tried fitting it up like that but it just would fit between the battery and dizzy cap, so dug around in my parts store (under the bed) and found some original airbox hosing... sucess! o.k I know its still near the rad but its further from the manifold and has a nice big air gap underneath it too, also seems to work a bit better having a small distance to the throttle body rather than being directly on it, can't explain why but its a bit less 'boggy' anyways, excuse the life story, long story short, 10 quid for the shield, 1.99 at b&q and a bit of bodging, happy this was the original set up, for comparison (although the bottom half of the airbox seen here was replaced with some ducting)

my car is like the pub in corrie cos the 'rovers return' (god sorry thats awful) managed to blag my neighbours empty shop to fix it in! winner! carpets, lights, the works! looks small in the pic but its just a pillar in the way... basically it just looks like someone did a rubbish job before as its such a pig to get to that belt, squeezed right up by the wing, all the bolts were finger tight, had been air chisseled and were generally garbage! also the belt had flailed off taking a few temp senders and switches with it, so had to bodge all of those back together too! i swear my car is 90% cable ties now! also fitted another harness for the passenger side which I got for free! (red sparco 3 point) will get some better pics soon, glad its back on the road though, I couldnt take much more of driving the backup rover, my other halfs very girly 25...

Love it, had forgotten about these. damn you, I now have a saved search on ebay titled 220gti..... ah thankyou mate I'm not sure wether i would recommend the 220, id say a 216! i think if i had been knowingly going out to buy a rover gti i'd have gone for the honda (216) lump as they are 80 kilo's lighter which pretty much makes up for the 20bhp defecit, they are also revvier, stronger and a hell of a lot easier to work on! that said, the 220 has a bonnet bulge, sounds nicer (i think) and has the rarity value! appreciate the comment!

feck had an argument with a skoda octavia taxi, which signalled left, then realised there was a road opposite to pull off a quick illegal u-turn, so signalled right (by which time I was alongside) and just turned across my path! ah well, hardly any damage just headlamp brackets, wing, indicator and cracked bumper, just the insurance side that sucks, but at least I get to do a bit of this... lucky its more track slag than show queen!

looks like the repair will turn into a mild facelift, unfortunately the supply of early wings with small, squared indicators like mine is somewhere between non-existent new, and rusty dog-mess second hand, see example of mine before smash... so looks like, if there are an in the local scrappy, ill be grabbing a pair of facelift wings with newer, downswepty indicators! ill bung 1 on to get legal and the right shape again, so it'll have a squint! then finish the other side off somewhen else...thats the plan anyway... will be more like these... in other news, the new tyres are finally on, even blagged some part worn avons, sticky! also, an intake duct, some large bore expandable tubing, a holesaw, and a jumbo pack of cable ties have all arrived...hmmm!!!!

well as predicted no one had any early style front wings, in fact, no one had any 200's full stop! i thought id pop in on the offchance to my local scrappy to at least get some bodging bits (was thinking an orange mini indicator lens to pop over the bulb lol) anyway, what did i see, not a 200, but a 400! result, only difference is the end, and i wasnt after that!!! took both front wings, n/s headlamp as mine was damaged, and a pair of the indicators, all lovely and rust free too unlike my existing ones!!! had never attempted to take a wing off, i know its not hard but you don't know til you try!!! then took the bits home to start the swapover... mine looking sorry for itself... i doubt ill bother colour-coding the wings to be honest, but for what its worth i swapped the gti trims and smoked indicators over lol... started fitting up, the new shape to the wing/indicator seems odd to me after being used to the early, small type, not sure if i prefer it, but hey-ho! going to need a load of t-cut to blend this bad-boy lol... trial fitted the headlamps, the n/s aperture is a bit squished from the prang, and had to be persuaded with a club hammer quite vigourously! its still a tight squeeze for the main wiring plug, but should be ok. light started running out at this point so i packed up, and dragged the bumper into the bathroom for repair (its the easiest room to clean lol) crack fixed... also vented the bumper a little bit in front of where the filter sits... will finish up in the morning, fitting back up!!! and a wash, its minging!
