C'mon guys lets get this together. We've got a great chance to make for a cool regular event... Maybe I need to get the 'local' meets more visible for everyone and dates well in advance. If we don't keep this meet populated we could lose it... and across the winter is when we need to keep our mojo up the most

well tonight is indeed the 3rd thurs, so id say that makes it tonight! david, were trying our best, but tbh other than a hardcore of about 6-10 of us, there doesnt seem to be a whole heap of interest the nightmares come sporadically too (i understand its a bit of a trek for them, and mark aint been having much luck with his motor!) and when they turn up it can double numbers. in the summer a lot more people turned out, but now its getting cold, dark and wet, people don't seem to want to turn up...... we discussed it last month and pete said he'd run off some fliers to divide up between us to slap on interesting vehicles- is there an existing RR flyer (i remember one doing the rounds aaaages ago) that could be tweaked maybe? there a couple of local lads to me interested, but one cant drive yet and I think the other is working tonight I think.

Other than that it is running spot on now so thats a plus . It will be its last time out with me behind the wheel next month so I will bring it down as a fairwell

I love to come along, and always make a meet if i can, was meant to be there last month but had to work, and the same tonight, and the wagon is off the road too, but from next month i will be there every month even if i have to take holiday i will be there, i would quite happily stick some flyers around chelmsford too to try and promote it

Yep, we discussed flyers, and yep, ashamedly I haven't done anything about it yet Just sorting a few bits and pieces out so I will try and get down a bit later on! I'll be in the modern as the Escort is hemmed in by old Scooby bits It'll save me cooking my tea as well! I said I'd have the 205 this time....... I won't! But I will next month so I reckon we should push for a big one on October, then maybe go to every other month? I have some guys interested at work one with a very tasty Kadett Coupe on 5 spokes. Looks the bolls, but haven't seen him around this week.

I always try to come along as its near enough the only time my polo gets a run! Admittedly missed last months... I think everyone needs to go around and talk to each other more, especially the regulars. A good atmosphere always encourages a good sized crowd! And as for the weather, at least its indoors, unlike some meets I've still attended in the rain and snow!

I think renewed flyers are a good idea. It might be nice to do a flyer that has a "Your local meet" type thing on it. I'm thinking there is something more I/we can do to promote the regular local RR meets, 8-ball, Fry Up Club, etc. We have them in the events section, but I'm guessing real world flyers and stuff would be a good call. Maybe a page on the site for each of them, so you can have a URL on a flyer : www.retro-rides.org/8-Ball ... www.retro-rides.org/FUCEM etc. Area52 has shown some great stuff can happen when we get people together, and I know I always go away from the smaller meets I've been to with renewed vigor for what I'm working on. What other ideas do people have, either 8-ball specific or for general promotion of the local meets?

Hi, I hope you don't mind my first post being on here instead of a "newbie" thread. Popped down to the 8 ball tonight with a few friends (we had the mk1 escort, Escort cosworth, nova with an xe lump and my 325) and thought it was a small but nice meet. A nice variety of metal there and has the potential to be a superb meet. I'll be posting on facebook to try to get more of my mates down there for the next meet, We have all sorts of old scrap amongst us

Took the Golf (modern ) down. Was a very good turnout, 25 cars I would say. Hi, I hope you don't mind my first post being on here instead of a "newbie" thread. Cosworth was mint (as was the 325) Sounded mad as it went out! What gearbox is it running? Think you were probably sat next to us at the first table on the way in? Gutted I didn't make the effort to pull the Escort out Next time Sounds like a plan for the flyers as well as a link, I think it's definitely something we could sort out.

Yeah we were sat at the first table, Good looking bunch of idiots aren't we haha.
The Mk1 is a stunner, The owner is currently building a very special mk2 at the moment too. Nova turned up a little later so was round the back hidden.
The Cosworth has a Pete Doughty 6 speed dog box in it, Katie has only just put it back on the road after 3.5yrs of not using it so she's finding the new box & driving her baby a bit of a culture shock. Does really well in it tho, Not sure I could drive a box that harsh!
I'm a graphics bod by trade so if anything needs setting up for flyers let me know, I'm happy to lend a hand.

I loved every car in your group last night, was glued to the nova when it showed up, and couldnt get away from the escort, certainly all sounded sweet when you drove off. Sadly I was shotgun in the passenger seat of the rather mint beetle that was there with my mates in the red mk2 fiesta. Was a pretty sweet turnout, glad to see these getting slightly more popular

Yep, there were some quality cars there this week that's for sure. Lets push for a big one next month, getting into November and cars will start to go into hibernation!! (Well, maybe ) We did comment on the fact that a "girl" was driving the Cosworth! Now you all need to sign up and get threads up in the readers rides section. And interested to see some detail on the Mk 2? (mine's the red one in the 8 Ball advert, not there last night )

She gets the "What, A girl, In a cosworth!" reaction loads. Top girl tho and very down to earth. We are off for a blast tomorrow so I'll be taking some snaps along the way.

Sorry i couldn't make it, it's a really long drive for me and I'm moving into a new house at the moment. The main issue is that I have a pool league on thursday nights so I'm only there on break weeks or when I blow it off Glad the meet was of a decent size, nice to see it getting the attendance it deserves. Flyers are a waste of paper for me since it's over 140 miles round trip though!

I was all set to come up in the Nova as well last night. Took it to work and ended up with the front calipers sticking and locking the NSF wheel up. Arrived in my work car park with smoke pouring from the wheelarch. SO it's now tucked away in the garage until I get a chance to look at it.
I really like this meet too. It's just up the road from me and there's usually a good selection of rides. Definitely gonna try to do the October one, hopefully November too, then the car goes away for a couple of months.
Let's keep it going!

Looked like a great meet. Shame i missed the XE nova. The chevette currently has no front brakes (see WIP thread) so I'm upgrading them, and plan to be at the next one
