consider thumb officially pulled out of my . In the car new years resolution thread on here, I posted something a little outrageous about what I was thinking of doing with my car, especially considering what it has. Well step one... say goodbye to this. Magnus walkers mantra had better come true this year! I'm trying to stick to that Mantra as well! I had plans to engine transplant my Polo this year, but instead I'm just going to get out and use it! Maybe build the engine on a stand so I can drop it in quickly over a weekend. What Mk3 donor will you go for? ABF?

Looking forward to seeing what comes back from being dipped!
I love the idea of really OEM looking on the outside apart from some slightly spaced out original wheels with purposeful looking tyres, something semi slick.

So I went and did a little bit on the Polo, but because I suck there's not many pictures. First things first I fitted the new Febi Fan Switch. Then I decided to "properly" fit the radiator. I say properly. I used these: 20180112_154944 by Tom Horn, on Flickr Little bit of bending and some bolts: 20180112_154938 by Tom Horn, on Flickr Not amazing but they're pretty solid and better than the cable ties that were holding it in previously. Then I chopped some coolant pipe up and refitted the sender and adaptor. Still not perfect but slightly better: 20180112_154927 by Tom Horn, on Flickr It will be revisited because I'm not totally happy with the fit of the 90° angle. I then filled it up with coolant and tried to run it up to temperature, but its running terribly at the moment. I plan to try and run it around the block tomorrow and see if a slight run improves it, in reality I need to time it since replacing the dizzy. Then if the fan kicks in and works properly then I'm booking it in for MOT! Then the fun jobs can begin! Tom

I'm not sure its aimed at me anymore. Its OK, but as mentioned earlier in this thread YouTube is now my go to for car related programming, especially now I can get it on my TV!

My mother had a snotter of a 1.25 Fiesta this shape. I used it to go and see my then girlfriend (now wife) which was a 300mile drive with 80 miles of B roads. Was an absolute riot to blast down the back lanes. Handled suprisingly well and the little 1.25 revved so well.

I'm more aware of toyotas reputation of being generaly typicly bullit proof. But I know nothing of Diahatsu in general and certainly not the Materia. Are they, y'know, actualy good n'stuff? These were also sold as the Toyota bB in Japan as well. The bB had a better sound system (was sold as a "Music Box for the younger generation") and cool blue dash lighting, but they're yaris running gear underneath. I like them as well, but the one thing I dislike about them, as well as the cube is that they're auto only, and it makes for a very boring drive. The Materia's are available in Manual Flavour

The Polo ARB blocks are also available with the hole for the ARB centrally instead of further forward. Although at £50 I'm not sure its worth it for the Sierra setup.

Just enjoyed reading this whole thread in spare moments at work over the past couple of days.
Love it! Brilliant build. Beautifully simple and so well executed. Great to see its being used hard as well!

I tend to agree with the above comments. In my head "Seth's Oxford" shoulbe be white over blue with black flames.
However I am prepared to be proven wrong!

Thanks! Must be close to driveable? Yeah, it basically is now (some brake fluid would help...) though there is still work to do. I'm coming back round to the idea of painting it myself, mostly so that I will be less precious about it afterwards. But I don't want that process to take forever and its not quite at that stage yet so we'll see. Front wings and valance to finish and some work on doors to go. But it is good to see it in almost one piece. Fitting and making the lights work has made all the difference to that. Seems like a good idea. You don't want to put all this work into it and then not be able to enjoy it, kind of defeats the object. What are the paint plans? White over blue with black flames?

Whilst on a quest to find a boring cheap to run modern reliable totaly naff daily, I discovered these, what I never new existed. Daihatsu Materia. Now I want one like I wanted a Nissan Cube a while back but couldnt put up with an auto. Everyone one else ive shown so far seems to think it looks rubbish, but thats been the same with every other car ive ever owned. Right up my street then. Yes I'm rather a fan as well. They're Toyota bb's in some other lands. Tom

Please don't judge but for a while I've really fancied: They're just sooooo bland and no one "does" them, add that to the fact that they're basically a Volvo S40 so coilovers are fairly cheap and 4x114.3 PCD means nice wheels are available! I also have an irrational love for Rover 400/45/ZS's and Rover 75/ZT's...... Tom

Refit Polo's Coolant system. Make sure its reliable. Get out and use the blumming thing.
Once I'm actually getting some use out of it then get one with some of the more fun jobs like making the skirts and starting the engine build.

Love this, such a cool little car great to see the handling mods to make the best of it. Personally I like the gutterskirts truck bedliner them is a good idea make them match the rest of the kit, I think they’ll look pretty OE. Cheers Robin. I need to get it running reliably then I can crack on with more fun things like the skirts! The handling improvements have a purpose, as do the better brakes I've got in the shed to fit What make is that paint you used? The finish looks pretty decent. Is it Montana? Yeah it was Montana black. First time I had ever used it and I was really impressed. Dead easy to get on with and really good coverage!
