Awesome feed back from everyone... be a while before i'm even thinking of putting suspension on this thing. It is completely stripped, so rear axle off, suspension off, engine out, interior is completely gone etc. Proper wee project Don't know if you're on Facebook but if so the Polo mk1-2f owners page is very active and there's always cars being broken if you need parts. They're really simple to work on. What's the shell like? Main rust areas are the battery tray and the backs of the sills, especially on the Driver side where the petrol tank filler neck runs.

I flipping love them! I'm on my 7th! Easy to work on, cheap parts. Loads you can do. VW parts interchangeable.
If you want to get them really really low it will cost you. The cheapest coilovers are £400. However there is a plethora of cheap fixed height kits. @slackerthepinstriper is selling an entry level -80mm kit which would be a good start.
I run mine lowered 60/40.

Many cigarette lighters are fed by a permanent live feed. If yours has the guages will never shut off and it will flatten the battery if the car is left for a couple of days or more. Good point. Something I will definitely check!

Can't wait to see this back on the road Robin, enjoy the updates on Instagram.
Can't help think that an M90 supercharger would suit it so well 😉

I would have thought powering two gauges would draw less current than the Ciggy lighter. I'm more worried about the additional draw say when I have the Sat Nav or my phone plugged in.

As mentioned in my progress thread I am isntalling somr auxillary guages, water temp and oil pressure.
I have a place to put them and I've ran the signal wiring.
The next part is providing them with power and also moving the cigarette lighter to a different location as my new guage holder covers where it used to go.
So I have the +ve and -ve wires from the cigarette lighter, will I be ok to run all three from those? Or will it draw to much current? What is the ideal solution? I would rather do it right and not have the car set on fire.
Thanks in advance for help.

I love the work that is going into this. It's certainly being done properly especially touches like the relocated fuel filler. Going to look brilliant once it's done.

My last 3 dailies have been 15 year old Turbo Diesels.
I've got to say I love the way a turbo diesel delivers it's power and I've never done any kind of power mods. However I think I'm going to take the plunge with my current daily (Civic 2.2CDTI) the clutch needs replacing so a SMF and uprated clutch and then a stage 2 Remap (190hp) should hopefully make it even more fun!
The MPG has always been the draw for us, although in reality with the kind of mileage and driving we do a petrol would probably be better.

Took me a minute to work out the car was upside down in those cage shots!
I'm no help with the welding technique, but I'm enjoying keeping up with these updates. Going to be a great car once it's done!
One thing I can't seem to see is any mention of what engine you're using in it?

Fill the rubber with Tigerseal? That was a popular Mod when I used to have my Clio Valver. Supposedly works pretty well.

So this afternoon I finally pulled my finger out and get on with a few of the more interesting jobs. First of all fitting the PPP ARB brace. Fitting it was pretty easy and its supposedly a great handling upgrade. Time will tell: 20171007_155152 by Tom Horn, on Flickr Next moving on to the front arches. Coupe S ones so no notches for rubbing strips. Quick cut and BEWM!: 20171007_163201 by Tom Horn, on Flickr 20171007_163212 by Tom Horn, on Flickr I need some 3M foam tape to tighten up the top of the arches. I also have some new rear arches which I'm going to do a better job of fitting! Then I'll have to move on to side skirts. The plan is to experiment with some of this: 20171007_164554 by Tom Horn, on Flickr So as well as the arches and planned guttering/skirts I've also bought these bargain Chinese speedparts! 20171007_165438 by Tom Horn, on Flickr I'm hoping to prove that the factory temp gauge is wildly inaccurate. So hopefully next week will see the gauges fitted and working and some skirt experiment progress. I also have some more suspension upgrades in the form of ARB blocks and some TCA polybushes. Tom

I also have a soft spot for this age Cherokee and it's big brother the Grand. They feel so American! My Uncle had a Grand Cherokee Orvis, for years and it was a great old boat.
My brother in law couldn't believe it when I said I'd have a diesel Grand Cherokee over a TD5 Disco.
Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Sooooo, over a year since the last update. I’d love to say loads has happened, but in reality it hasn’t really. After the last update I used it. One night I went for a quick blast down some lanes near where I live. After a particularly bumpy section I thought I heard some scraping. Thought nothing of it. Then after another quarter of a mile I definitely could. So I pulled over to be greeted by this: Busted Radiator by Tom Horn, on Flickr BUM HATS! So using a few bits and bobs I had in the car I managed to temp fix it to get home: Radiator repair by Tom Horn, on Flickr Chemical metal, a latex glove and some Gorilla Tape. Quick look on Amazon and I managed to get a Nissens radiator for £11.04 delivered! Bargain. So I fitted it : New Radiator by Tom Horn, on Flickr Worked well for a few months. Then took it to work for the first time. Was running pants. Broke down as I parked it. Got back to it and it wouldn’t start. BUMHATS AGAIN! So I called the recovery peeps and he diagnosed it as a bad fuel pump. Broken Down by Tom Horn, on Flickr I fannied about for ages and finally got a fuel pump and filter. When I was fitting that I noticed that the fuel tank sounded very empty………hmmm. Stuck a load of fuel in it. Still didn’t work. Rubbish! So it sat: Still Sitting by Tom Horn, on Flickr Then it sat some more as we did some MOT work on my brothers: MOT Prep by Tom Horn, on Flickr Fixing James' by Tom Horn, on Flickr As I had replaced the fuel pump and knew that it was getting fuel, I started on the ignition system. Rotor arm, Dizzy cap, Coil. Nothing. Finally replaced the Distributor itself! First time I had ever replaced one. Went well, and it finally bloody worked, as evidenced by finally being able to turn it around! Finally Fixed by Tom Horn, on Flickr So it now runs again! Unfortunately the MOT has run out, as has the insurance. So as I save up for them I have a few jobs to do, which I’ll cover in the next few updates. Tom
