I have been called many things… 🤣
It’s not so much genius, as painful and bitter experience. Also, it’s something I was shown many years ago to do with the sharp and pointy bits of self-tappers when they protrude out the back of a panel where you can catch yourself on them, so I can’t really claim much credit. 😃

Might I advise that you cut four short bits of suitable bore rubber hose and stick them on those mounting bolts? Grubbing around under there when you’re tired means that it’ll only take a moment’s inattention and you’ll be leaking the red stuff as quick as you can say “um, sweetheart, is there any chance you can run me to A&E?…”
I want a custard tart now you swine. 😆

Shame you’ve just sold something with 4 wheels and a V5…
Although I would think that a proper road-legal quad would be the best thing to use for that. Just cut all the jet ski stuff out from underneath and drop the empty shell over the top.

New V5 landed this morning.
Insurance cover now in place too. Added it to my multi-car policy for the price of an admin fee.
Have also fired off an email to Waaijenberg in Holland to see if they can enlighten me in any way about the car. If there's any specific differences between it and the Dutch market ones beyond the obvious. I have also asked if there's any manuals, handbooks etc. available; you never know.
Anyway, that's it for the time being. Off to pack.

Are you sure that’s not a manufacturing date? I looked at my newest ones, bought last week from a major supplier, and the date on them was May this year…

That said, the Harbour Arm and old town in Folkestone are worth a mooch around. There’s been some significant regeneration of the old Harbour Station buildings and the fresh seafood near the old fishmarket is always good. 👍

Funny how so many men do not speak any other than their mother tongue language. But then they can order beer in at least 5 foreign languages! When I was working in the Netherlands, my Dutch was good enough to follow my friends conversations most of the time, although my responses were often met with hilarity and some gentle correction. 🤣 I have only managed to get back to Amsterdam once since 1999 though, so it’s now very rusty indeed! 😃 I do like languages though, unlike a lot of native anglophones who can be really lazy with learning other ones. My wife and I watch a lot of European tv drama now that there’s such easy access with Netflix etc, and always in the original language with subtitles. My French is good; fluent after a few days of immersion, and I have a penchant for cheesy French pop music. 🤣 I’ve a lorry driver’s vocabulary in Spanish, Italian and German too. 🤣🤣 But, I do have to admit that I can order beer in way more languages than I can actually converse in; after all is said and done, beer at the end of the day is the most important thing. 😃👍

route45.nl/canta-98brommobielsloperij.nl/4689-cantalxNo association, but these came up when I plugged Canta onderdelen into my Google. Loads of stuff on Marktplaats as well. I'm back home on Monday and have the following weekend free, so happy to buzz about picking bits up and could even meet you in Northern France if needs be. Would give me the chance to nip in to Auchan and pick up French groceries... Onderdelen. That's a new word for my vocabulary. My Dutch is limited to the working vocabulary I learned when I was based out of Schipol 25 years ago, and largely limited to cursing and ordering beer. Finding stuff on the internet is easy if you know the right search terms, not so straightforward if you don't.

Ok. So. New drive and alternator belt ordered from a Dutch supplier. Got skinned a bit with the postage, but hey-ho. Also ordered a new 3.5J-10 tubeless rim to replace 2.5” tube type current spare, and a single 145/80r10 Nankang proper car tyre. Will all, hopefully, be here by the time I get home and we can have a proper play. The second link from misteralz has some useful pictures of secondhand bits, and has quite helpfully identified the master cylinder as a basic Girling one, so I should be able to sort something out with that for significantly less than they’re asking for them. I’m happy enough to pay the prices that low volume production demands, but it’s clear that a lot of the proprietary bits can be found much cheaper elsewhere if you know what you’re looking for. €65 plus post for a secondhand Canta ignition switch/lock, vs £55 post free for a NOS genuine Peugeot one, or £17.50 for a new pattern part is a big difference. Door locks look like Pug 205/106 parts too…

There was a period in the nineties when ex-military surplus rebuilt engines were so cheap that they were often the most cost effective way to keep an older Land-Rover on the road; even if the original engine was still quite repairable. I suspect that is where it’s come from.

I showed my wife the video that grizz posted about Fin and I collecting the Canta. Her reaction was an identical "who on earth would watch that?". She was most perturbed when I showed her how many people had watched me trundle around a yard in my lorry, and walked away shaking her head muttering something about "bunch of lunatics..."

Having always enjoyed Glen's threads on here and VZi, on the rare occasions there is a picture, part of me is surprised to see him without the tin hat in his avatar, like I assume he wears it all the time Thanks. Sadly, I don't wear it all the time, but I suspect that if I actually manage to make it to a gathering I will have to wear the bloody thing all weekend! That avatar picture goes way back to a daft thread on Vzi about headgear. I was a good deal younger when I took it! Oh, back on the Canta subject, thanks to sebastiaan giving me the heads-up about a parts supplier in Holland that I wasn't aware of, and who are currenly listing the drive belts at 20% discount, I have just ordered one, and an alternator belt. I obvously need to widen my search terms. "Canta spares" isn't enough it seems. A lot of suppliers reference "45km" or "45kmh" as they have bits for lots of different microcars. Any tips or clues for spares, particularly secondhand ones, will be greatfully received.

I wear progressive lenses and was told recently that if you put them on upside down the close bit is then at the top, and it actually works really well! Do look like a wally but am very experienced in that aspect... That's probably fine if your eyes are well matched, but my lenses are so different I wouldn't be able to see anything with them on upside down! Puts me in mind of Dennis Taylor with his special glasses for playing snooker!

Hey sebastiaan thanks for dropping by. 😃👍 I had not found that site, thanks for the link. I might just buy a belt from them as they are on offer at the moment. Things will be put on hold for a few days after the weekend, as we’re going on our annual “escape from the in-laws” trip.* No doubt I’ll find a moment or two to catch up, but I’ll not be doing anything physical myself 😃 * They live with us and never, ever, go away anywhere. There’s no escape. 😱

You should be able to move it directly from one vehicle to the other. No need to put it on retention.
