So you know, I assume this is MOT related, any third or additional brake lamp that doesn’t function in it’s entirety is NOT a testable item and is a pass and advise as non-mandatory stop lamp not functioning. If it works but less than 50% of its light source is working it’s a fail, so you can disconnect it and it becomes a pass. Hope that helps. This indeed is correct I do try. 😂 ‘refer to manual’ and all that 🤣

So this thread 💩 got moved into the twilight zone because the rules say so. Was tempted to just pretend it had disappeared which may be what they want. It got moved because it's a post-2000 car thread. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to make a big deal out of it, fine by us man. But there isn't any reading between the lines to be done here.

I would recommend replacing the water pump at the same time, the B3/5 engines used in the Demio have the water pump driven from the ancillary belt but to not replace it at the same time is a false economy due to it's location in the centre of the timing drive arrangement.

Definitely a pickup - wonder if they know about this at my garage. I doubt it since I've got an advisory for corroded rear coil springs which look decidedly long and flat and leafy to me... That’s just one mouse misclick as coil and leaf are listed next to each other on the MTS. However, it’s not great practice. Does the truck have twin exhausts to the rear? If so the emissions test should be carried out twice, on each engine bank and the emissions results averaged. The downstream sensor with a voltage swing would appear you have a failed or failing cat on that bank.

By the sounds of it it may be tester’s discretion on that one. Tape a mirror to it. Any mirror. Like a makeup mirror. It may be stupid but all it has to do it provide a ‘view to the rear’.

All the details you need are in the MOT manual, found by searching ‘mot manual’. There’s a lot of assumption factors at play here including the car’s age, and what mirror is damaged.

Glad to hear you are recovering ok. Gutted for you about the car, was a fab build but would rather owner survived than the car as that would be selfish. Hopefully you’ll be back on your feet proper soon.

High HC and CO is just rich running, Maybe burning a little oil. Don’t panic or worry about head gaskets. It just needs getting up to temperature and then tuning if required on the analyser down to something that will pass the test and the car is happy with. Just remember to err on the side of rich running as that’s far safer for the engine.

I should have commented days ago, so sorry for that. The emissions test for an ‘88 is extremely easy for anything to pass. If it’s failed I’d definitely want the printout from the tester to show what’s up, as 3.5%CO and 1200HC/PPM is a fairly high amount to be over. (modern cars are tested at max 0.2%CO and 200HC/PPM for a frame of reference.)

No so much a mobile bug, but you've closed the other threads HoTWire, but there is no longer a 'open full reply editor thingy' button, only 'post quick reply' on desktop and I presume mobile also. I like using the full editor and quoting someone to do that doesn't seem the most efficient way of doing it. Just about to try and make the full editor apply to the quick reply box, there is a forum addon that should let me do that. Going to give it a go now Amazing, thanks man!

I've established that it's a 9U made by VW and SEAT made a similar variant the Inca van 9K. Then You might have established, too that the 9U was based on the Felicia with 1.6 petrol and 1,9 diesel engines as a max. The 9KV was a rebadged Seat Inca, which was based on the Seat Ibiza/Cordoba, which was available with engines up to 2.0 150hp. So if You want a juicy pickup it would be easier to cut up a 9KV probably. I should have read more of the Wiki article  The 9U is indeed the Favorit-mechanical-based Felicia truck which doesn't share very much with VW vehicles as Dez said.

Depends if it's a Van or a Pickup, remember people seem to forget either the van or the pickup actually existed depending on who you talk to. Seeing as OP mentioned the Seat Inca and it's a '9U' I'm hedging bets on it being the tupperware-stuck-to-a-car van. Hmm. Yeah. To me that would quite clearly be a mk3. But we are working with the logic of VW owners here… The Felli pickup and the VW van ran alongside each other which was odd when you consider the Skoda Cube Van existed as well.

They’re entirely Skoda Felicia, with design aspects carried over the the favorit. They were the last gasp of an original Skoda design before skoda just became rebadged vw models. Pretty much no VW in them at all apart from some engine variants, and a few brake bits here and there. In that respect it’s no easier to fit VW parts than any other marque, as they have nothing in common. You can get absolutely everything for them very easily and cheaply from Czech Republic. Adapting and upgrading stuff is an uphill battle though, and probably not worth the effort tbh.
