The small block powered Merc W114 is a great Q-car - hangdog looks and blow your doors off performance. There was a 70's Jag XJ6 2.8 fitted with one in the UK, not only was it faster and more economical (not saying much maybe, as the 2.8 XJ6 was at it's fastest driven off a cliff), but you could park a Mini (a real one) in the gap between the front of the block and the rad!

There's a whole cottage industry in the US to re-power Jags, Bimmers, and Ferrari 308's with SBC, and has been for years and years. Very common. Very.

Don't know about the BMWs and Ferarris, but it's the same story for Jag in Australia. People have been swapping V8s of all varieties into them for decades, because it just makes sense. The V8 is lighter, much cheaper to maintain, more reliable and more powerful. There's also a smaller but still significant group of people swapping V8s into Volvo 240s!

Now, I really like seeing engine transplants from the same manufacturer being used - not sure why, it just seems more "right" to me. That's not to say that I dislike engine swaps using other brands. Plus, the world would be a really dull place if this was done all the time, and engines like the SBF are infinitely more tuneable than a lot of other engines. They make sense if you're looking for serious power.

Twenty years ago I went to view a 60's AM DBS that had had an engine fire - the engine had been replaced by a Volvo 340 - it looked ridiculous - there was so much space in the engine bay!
I believe the car was eventually broken up.

I'd have gone big block in that Merc. Fat, lazy torque suits cars like this. Mind you, stroked small blocks can do that too... Wrong engines in cars are so right. "I'm"

I assume there must be at least one V8 Prius floating about but I haven't looked yet..
I'd love to wrong'n my Volvo. Obvious choices are all V8s but dropping in a turbo Saab lump seems so close to being correct yet totally wrong at the same time that it makes utter sense
