Well it's currently sleeping in my lock-up Bought it in May'07 off FleaBay Went all the way from Wirral to Middlesborough on the train to pick it up Promptly got a sun burnt head driving it all the way back with the roof off ;D Took flippin' hours as it's only a 1 ltr with big tyres and not exactly aerodynamic So it was maxed out at 60mph on the flat of the motorways Used it on the local beach in Sept '07 when our local Sandyacht Club held the European Championships Ran out of TaX+MoT in Oct'07 has been sleepin' since..... Chassis is solid but arches and front wings ravaged by the TiN WorM The clutch also started to slip because of the tall tyres Plans are Lorry metal mudguards welded in as arch extensions to sort out a lot of the rust Patch/plate wings/headlight surround to get through MoT Got some x1/9 seats to go in it Got another clutch to go in it Got an SU Carb & manifold to go on it Want to self build a side exit exhaust Got a 413 Electronic dizzy to fit Got a pair of spare doors to make some cut down ones Got a spare screen and screen frame to make a cut down screen Got some smaller chrome earlier SJ mirrors to go on [better than those big plastic Spanish Santana ones it has] Sort out the curse word looking motorcyle indicators....already chopped some clear circular Range Rover side repeaters into a spare set of plastic headlight surrounds as sidelights and indicators . . . and already have LEDs in the headlights as side lights as well Want to run it in the summer with just the external roll cage above the wasteline [no screen or doors or rear door] The idea of the cut down screen is just if it gets too windy at speed Has nayone got an idea of the maximum height of winddeflector screen you can have without having to have windscreen wipers??? Thinking kind of like a full wind aero screen like you see on Caterhams/Lotus 7s/Morgans

Thinking kind of like a full wind aero screen like you see on Caterhams/Lotus 7s/Morgans I'm pretty sure that the idea of a wind deflector is that you don't look through it, you look over it. Hence, you would never need wipers. The height would then be decided by the path from the driver's eyeline to the leading edge of the bonnet, or something like that. Not sure what the exact UK rules would be though, so best to check with someone who knows them.

Pretty much what he said Worth noting though, that if you have an opening windscreen then you don't legally need windscreen wipers as far as I know.. so if it opens/folds flat...

I'm pretty sure that as with most mot places the rules are if their not their than they cant fail it like if you havent got a spare wheel they cant fail u for it as its not in their! stupid as it sounds but if you havent got any of the switch's or motor and arms than technically they cant fail your car for it as they cant test it

Thanks for the replies about the windscreen and wipers guys Found this www.ukmot.com/6-1.aspBut it does not mention wind deflecting [aero] screens or a max hiehgt of them Did a google on SVA tests and aero screen and also got NOWT I'm pretty sure that the idea of a wind deflector is that you don't look through it, you look over it. Hence, you would never need wipers. The height would then be decided by the path from the driver's eyeline to the leading edge of the bonnet, or something like that. . . . So I'm guessing you are right with that So long as the top of any aero screen or wind defector is below the drivers line of sight to the leading edge of the bonnet ..no wipers needed Anway at the end of the day it could be a solid wind deflector and not glass....in fact I like the sound of that... a chopped down wind screen frame that is then solid infilled with metal...hmmmm what size tyres are they as ive had a few 1liter sj's and the best tyres I found were 215 diamond backs! very good tyres From memory I reckon they are 265/80/15s So about 20% taller than the stock 215 tyres! The wider than standard modular rims came with the vehicle, and had duff tyres on them The 265 tyres now on the JeeP were on a spare set of rims I had for my Delica so effectively free.... but have obviously meant I've DuFFFeD the clutch.........LoL

Plans are Lorry metal mudguards welded in as arch extensions to sort out a lot of the rust Patch/plate wings/headlight surround to get through MoT Got some x1/9 seats to go in it Got another clutch to go in it Got an SU Carb & manifold to go on it Want to self build a side exit exhaust Got a 413 Electronic dizzy to fit Got a pair of spare doors to make some cut down ones Got a spare screen and screen frame to make a cut down screen Samauri arches may hide the snot on your arches. SU carb will bolt direct to Suzuki manifold. 413 dizzy will not fit 410 head. Rather then cut the doors why not cut the hinges so you can lift them off ? Older 410's had ears that go ontop of the windscreen so it will fold flat, there should also be a lashing point in the middle of the bonnet to stop it flying up, I've done 70 on the motorway with no roof, doors or windscreen, sunglasses are all you need :-) You may have a issue with that roll cage getting in the way of the screen tho. The wife's, note ears on the top of the screen.

Samauri arches may hide the snot on your arches Was thinking metal truck mudgaurds chopped and welding into the wheel wells to give more room/space SU carb will bolt direct to Suzuki manifold YuP . . . Got all I need for that 413 dizzy will not fit 410 head. DiFF Lock Forum posts suggested it would fit.. ? Older 410's had ears that go ontop of the windscreen so it will fold flat, there should also be a lashing point in the middle of the bonnet to stop it flying up, I've done 70 on the motorway with no roof, doors or windscreen, sunglasses are all you need :-) Not got the ears as its a Santana 410... and like you say the external cage will mean the screen does not fold down anyway....BUT simple enough to unbolt it for the summer AND also cut the hinges on the spare doors so they can lift off...as well as having already cut the top frames of those spare doors Just need to get me MoJo fr the Jeep back BUT Delica and Smart car need to be fixed FIRST Then there is the newly acquired -60mm suspension I just got secondhand for the Uno...to be fitted in the next week....

Are truck mudguards not made of plastic ? If you have a welder it's not that difficult to make replacement sections, assuming you have enuf sold steel to weld to, as it's a Santana is the floor behind the seats solid ?
If someone has found a way of fitting a 413 distributor on a 410 head it's a new one on me, the gearing to the cam will be different for a start and from memory the 413 distributor has a much larger diameter shaft so won't physically fit.

Are truck mudguards not made of plastic ? You can get them in metal as well Mate of mine has made a nice set of welded in extended arches that way If you have a welder it's not that difficult to make replacement sections, assuming you have enuf sold steel to weld to, as it's a Santana is the floor behind the seats solid ? The floor is not too bad actually..just the arches that are quite shot If someone has found a way of fitting a 413 distributor on a 410 head it's a new one on me, the gearing to the cam will be different for a start and from memory the 413 distributor has a much larger diameter shaft so won't physically fit. Hmmm must have a look at that when the weather gets a bit warmer Thanks a lot for the heads up I can see this ending in tears.... As bought the dizzy on the basis that its electronic and would be an easy fit and make the 410 four pot run a hell of a lot better

on a couple of the many sj i built over the years i had cut down doors.. worked really well. haft doors on my challenge truck. and even had a pair fitted to one of my tintops! as for 413 dizzy fitting a 410.. it can be done.. sort of.. you take the guts out of one and fit it in to the other! did just that to one of mine.. and have just do it on my denso dizzy (which is what a 413 dizzy is) on my hiace.. to give lecky ignition! cheaper mod than buying an aftermarket kit!

Ahhhh I thought that would be the case A bit of DiZZY GuTTing required to give lecky ignition! cheaper mod than buying an aftermarket kit! YuP that was the idea AND my 410's dizzy is totally worn out in any case Nice looking trucks by the way What running gear does the challenge truck use with those Grand Vitara steel rims and big rubber?

was a bit of a mix and match!! it was a 410 chassie. but up front was running a sammy axle(wider than a 410 one) with vitara diff..(for lower gearing) spring over axle conversion, rear springs on the front (to move it all forward 1,1/2.. and bigger vitara 16v brakes!! take a breath!!! and on the rear it was running a vitara rear axle.. on coil springs and my own 3 link suspension set up,but all moved bag to give me a wheel base of 90"..(standard is about 84"ish!) so as you can tell rather a lot of work went in to it.. i won't even go in to the tubed rear tray back ;D
