1990 Skoda Rapid 136 In Royal Blue Mot: Sep 2010 Tax: April 2010 Location: Eastbourne East Sussex. Mileage: only 23000 miles Unfortunately my daily car was hit this morning meaning my only other car is this which isnt suitable for 2 very young children to get in the back. As such I have to sell this until my insurance money comes through Its a 1990 Royal Blue Skoda Rapid 136. (Please note the photos were taken before the engine rebuild and the engine bay is lovely and clean now). I have recently put new Pistons, rings and liners in this, along with a new headgasket obviously. The car runs lovely and with the 5 speed gearbox keeps up with the modern cars easily. Its only done 23000 miles which obviously helps the smooth running. Its still original with no upgraded carbs etc which helps on the economy front (around 45 mpg). Bodywise the car is very solid. It has evidence in a few places of different colour touching up (wrong colour spray can) but It wouldnt be too difficult to sort it. There is a dent in the front drivers wing (see pic), but again its not big and may even push out. Looking at the old Mots the 23000 miles seems genuine and I cant see anything to make me believe it isnt. Tyres, clutch etc all good on it. Its classed as classic car insurance and being a 1300cc its cheap tax too. Any questions please ask.

Tempted by this and only down the road too.
Is the running gear, exhaust etc good?
What's the suspension on these? Easy enough to lower?
What PCD are the wheels?
Cheers.
Jody.

Sorry, insurance broker sticking his oar in here but you do seem reluctant to sell this car so here goes; If you got hit, you're perfectly within your rights to hire a car and claim it back off the other party's insurer you know. If you can't/don't want to put your hand in your pocket and then claim it back (understandable) then get in touch with some of these types instead who claim the costs back from the insurer; www.accidentexchange.com/ www.driveassist.co.uk/Good luck with the sale otherwise.

This car is a bargain! If I wasnt in Cumbria I would buy it now and put it on Ebay tomorrow and net at least £750, probably £1000. Body panels are still available as are all parts bar interior trim...for next to no money.

Hi all, sorry for the late reply but ive been out all day today. Unfortunately i havent got the money to hire a car to claim it vack at a later day. I was going to buy a £200 heap with some T+T on it as I need my car for work but looking around £200 doesnt buy anything reliable enough at the moment. The car was Only a Felicia Estate that got hit so I'm only expecting around £500 for it, so I'm not going to have much left from it anyway. The Rapid really has to go I really wanted to swap it for an Estelle, but looks like that isnt going to happen so its definately for sale. Bodywise it really doesnt need any panels. Its very solid and the wing would certainly pull/fill. They don't even have the usual rust on the tops of them like most Rapids/Estelles. Prsoanlly I would say it needs respraying due to different paintwork used and various level of paint thickness, but certainly not because of rust in any. To answer quastions exhaust is still very good (its only 3 foot long and costs £35 new anyway lol), Wheels are 4x130 pcd. Same as Beetle and Porsche. Suspension is easily lowered . Coil springs all round with Spax and others making spring kits for around the £100 mark. Any more questions please ask.

I'd speak to your insurance. If the other side has admitted liability, your insurance should be able to arrange a hire car at no cost to you. This is what happened when my 2CV got walloped.

That's 2 of us have told you this now! I think you're being very silly if you sell this car when the other insurer will have you in a shiny new courtesy car by the end of a phone call. As I said before, good luck if you're still selling it though.

Just seems a shame to sell it if that's the only reason. Ah well, here's a free bump!

I like this car!! A blank canvas for improvement, especially on the stance, looks like it's seen a mouse!! Is it still for sale?
How come the engine needed work after only 23,000 miles? Seems low for a rebuild, was there a problem with it before?
I've owned 4 Estelles in the past but never a Rapid and am getting sorely tempted by this one.....

How come the engine needed work after only 23,000 miles? Seems low for a rebuild, was there a problem with it before? From what I remember, the same thing that has killed so many, bad maintenance. They realy don't need a lot of looking after, but you MUST run 50% coolant mix, and old biddys tend to just fill it with water. Not good when the engine is at the back, the radiator is at the front, and they're a hot little engine anyway. But this one has been rebuilt by someone who knows what they're doing, a change in thermostat, new gasket, check the piston liners haven't dropped and some proper coolant, and you're away for another 25k.

As will said bad maintenance along with the fact I had all the liners, pistons etc sitting spare in my shed for just such a project. When I bought the car it had a sticking stat. This caused it to overheat. After replacing the stat the car ran perfect but i decided to change the headgasket as a precautionary measure. Once the head was off it just seemed rude not to go the whole hog lol.
