Following on from Darren's Corsa thread, something which was touched upon was the idea of something which will take you across town or city quickly, without fuss and without having to slow down for pesky things like corners or speed humps but one which would still be a hoot on a B-road Thinking further about this, the perfect car I can think of is... Mazda 323 4x4 Turbo. Raise the suspension. Fit 14x6 or 14x7 steels. Fit big brakes. Fit BF Goodrich rubber. Fit a sump guard. Fit wire guards over the lights. Anything else is just accessorising. So...What would you have to get from home to work, cross-town as fast as possible with speed bumps, narrow lanes, bollards, heavy traffic and pedestrians to contend with? *n

you could also "cab" the back, squash the front around a bit and then paint it green and call it a landy!

I'd borrow McQueen's Mustang. But not the Charger, not too good on fuel as demonstrated below!

Amen to that brother, just make use its the GLSi version with the cologne 2.8 V6 out of the xr4i (not the 8v I4) If you want a 2.8 4x4 wagon it'd have to be a Ghia! Nowt wrong with I4s though! ;D Or for scaring pedestrians with JCB-like sound effects, or towing entire buildings, 2.5 diesel! Some of these motors seem a bit barge-like for hacking through town (although that does make bullying others out the way easier!) My vote goes to:- PANDA 4x4!

Forgot to add - I put the Volvo on 'cos out of all the cars I have been in, it rode the best over speed bumps. Whether it was the lovely IRS or sheer weight mass flattening them I am not sure RWD (who needs 4wd for a city warrior?), 180bhp, superb turning circle, and more agile than they look. Plus they might not be as safe as some moderns but people still *think* of them as tanks, and are easily intimidated

the best vehicle i ever saw for this scenario was on the turbobricks.com forum. it was a matt black volvo 240, suspension slightly raised, some knobbly tyres on it. and other general chunky looking protective things on it. it was the guys daily driver .

The thing about Landies/Ovlovs is that they're a bit big for darting into gaps in traffic...

Just make the gap bigger then In all fairness you are right. My Land Rover has the same turning circle and steering responsiveness as the QE2 with a broken rudder.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.
