Only one answer to this imo, everything is do-able. Ask yourself if you want to do it, have the time and are willing to strip it down to where it needs to be to get it fixed.
If you think youre ready to take it on then go for it. Have a look through the readers rides threads on here, this is a well trodden path. Seek out xbollox Masarati or anything by tonybmw for the right level of inspiration. Theres also a chap who resurected a horrendous w114 Benz pretty spectacularly but i've fogotten his username.
Best of luck, I lways prefer to see things rescued, theres and amazing amount of pride waiting at the end when your car can wear a built not bought sticker with the upmost honour, lol.

never going to be concourse, but doable. Weather the end result will worth the expense and effort would be my main concern Not many left, but not yet worth real bucks.

If you find its beyond you the 2.3 parts will be worth hanging onto and bunging in another shell (engine mounts, power steering, 6 pot rev counter, back axle if its the heavy duty one) sling that engine away though, the 2.3 cologne is terrible, power of a 2 litre with the economy of a 2.8 and it weighs loads.

never going to be concourse, but doable. Weather the end result will worth the expense and effort would be my main concern Not many left, but not yet worth real bucks. Simply put, it will never be worth the time and effort you'll put in resurrecting it to someone else. You might just make the cost of your materials back, but that would be about it. If you're saving this for financial reasons, then I'd stop here. If, however, you're wanting to save it for your own enjoyment and satisfaction then it's ideal, providing you like welding of course.

I take it you will be doing all the welding yourself? Personally I'd say this one is only fit for the banger boys....but saying that the banger boys don't want something this rotten. I've patched up many a cortina over the years, budget on 2 inner sills, 2 outer sills, 2 a posts, 2 splash guards, 2 wing rails, probably a front and rer valence, when you take that front screen out you will find that the surround will be rotten, as will the metal under it, around £400 worth of cheap ill fitting egay panels, and around £4000 worth of welding and you should have something close to what would have cost you £800 to start with........but hey, if you love welding, and have an unlimited amount of time and cash for grinding blades, mig wire, and agronshield......go for it

Anything is pretty much repairable, if you have the time, patience and ability. I restore cars for a living, and I've done worse than this. As previously said, there is a good thread on here by tonybmw about making repair sections and welding. As Volksangel said, the Mk5 Cortina doesn't have enough value to warrant restoring it for financial gain. If, however, you want to do the car for your own satisfaction, then by all means go for it..... I'm sure you'll get plenty of support, encouragement and advice on here.

Respect for such enthusiastic responses on this.
It's not something I'd take on. It makes no economic sense, but
........if it's something YOU want to do, you have the time and patience, and you've lusted after a 2.3 'Tina.... GO FOR IT!

It's always difficult to weigh up the outlay needed compared with the gain when it's done, and this applies with a vehicle that will be worth £100 when finished or £100,000, if both cost £99,999 to do, is it worth it? But I agree with those who have written if it's something you want to do then do it, it will be so sweet to pass an MOT and drive a vehicle you've brought back from the brink!! I've found that if you have a love of something (cars in this case) then you make desicions with your heart, not your head. I think we can all relate to that. Do I 'need' all of my cars? No. Would it make more sense to invest every spare penny I have preparing for the unseen? Maybe. But, it's my hobby, my passion and I enjoy every minute of it, I adore all of my vehicles, past, present and future, that to me is priceless.
Cheers,
Ian
