Cant really see the point but when has not having a sensible point ever stopped anyone creating anything?

I like that a lot! Different shells on Bug floorpans does seem to be a bit of a trend, like you say! Interesting!

Cool idea, I'd hardly call it a trend quite yet tho! Lots of work there

Is anybody (including Type 3 detectives) registering these properly or are they just hoping for the best?

What makes you say that? The Type 3 Detectives Beetle based Mk3 is very much the finished article.

Like the lack of original thinking. Another forgettable bellybutton car. Paint it in flake, de-lock it, roof chop it, hardtop coupé it, just for the love of god engage some original thinking instead of following the tail of the next wildebeast on the herd. ?? I swear you just critiscise for critiscisings sake. Matt

I could happily look at stuff like that all day , the T3D Golf was based on a type 3 anyway so it's not as if it's the exact same thing . I look forward to seeing more of this crazyness

Would the fact that it uses the entire beetle floor pan mean that it would be BIVA exempt? Its just the same as, say, using a scimitar chassis? I would imagine that would mean registering it on the beetle plates?
Either way it looks mint, i'm looking forward to seeing it finished.

I was thinking that whilst trying to get to sleep last night. As long as the floorpan isn't modified and retains the stock axles/engine it should work??
It didn't drive there so maybe he just hasn't taken the plates off yet.

I think there has been some debate/discussion about Beetle floorpans. Kev R would know. Is the roof rack providing the helpful service of keeping the doors shut in the event of the body being a bit wobbly??

You don't even need to retain the floorpans on a beetle....just the central spine which is classed as a chassis. Keep the engine & box (or two other components that equate to three points) and you can pretty much do what you want with the rest. I'd keep the suspension & steering then put a different engine in there....looking at the boot area behind the rear axle there should be plenty of room for a nice Porsche flat 6. Air cooled of course

You don't even need to retain the floorpans on a beetle....just the central spine which is classed as a chassis. Not sure where.... but I think read somewhere that the DVLA engineers have revised the rule on bug chassis's. It's not retrospective (as usual) but from now on all new bug based kits and customs have to keep the bugs original floor pan integrated into the design and build. I'm pretty sure I'll be corrected by several thousand 'bugers' if there's no truth in this.... but either way we'll find out.
