Well as promised here are the pics of my new project car. Hidden beneath 26years of storage we were very unsure what to expect… but we did find lots of interesting parts After much clearing out, sorting out and we finally found her! So to make things easy for pushing round / working on ect we decided best to remove the engine and gearbox to end with a lighter car to be able to move round then load onto the trailor, all went well and my mate strapped her down for the journey to my house where work can progress slowly. Still to collect these bit’s from his house tho Once back at mine a quick wash (pics to follow) and a quick clean inside and I ended up with this Typical dog shot! I’ll get more pictures of her soon (clean’er outside) and start work, but it’s been decided a bigger garage is needed for the Daimler and the Herald to live in. Wohoo!

super project. no the engine is out, this is begging for a nice engine swap - 2L 140bhp zetec from a mondeo? original engine was an ohv 2.5 6cyl top speed 80mph from 70bhp

My GOD that's cool! I think a Zetec would be bloody awful in such a huge car to be honest. If ever there was a car that needed a big torquey V8 this is it. Or a Jaguar XJS V12?!

Cheers all,
Nice plate yes but no papers so got to go through the club to get a V5 sorted out. spares are few and far between, but the club has a few pannels ect made to order.
Engine which came out was dead the reason it was laid up all them years ago, the autobox is massive and heavy!
But of course, to rod, or not to rod?? Hmmm...

I was thinking cheap powerful lightweight 4 pot with OEM fuel injection just like this - V8 is obvious (and nice too), but summat different would be better. getting the 4 cyl further back will make it mid-engined too for great weight distribution. these only had 76 bhp and 124 ftlbs to start with, so any modern 4 pot would hussle the old dear along nicely. kerb weight is only 1400kg so same as a mk4 golf zetec = turbo too

Awesome project. Jag straight 6 and lazy autobox out of a 90's XJ6 would be laid back, with my mind on my money and my money on my mind.

^^ You could be right paul, select gear then use a floor pedal to make it change, it had a fluid flywheel on the back of engine as well. Are these of any use to anyone?

IMHO, it would be a pity to loose the preselector 'box (they're very nice to use) but if you're not using it. I'm sure that the relevant owners club would like it. Aside from the engine, some rust repairs, reassembly & paint, what needs doing? They're pretty rare cars and as it seems in otherwise good order, I reckon it would be a pity to rod it. However it is of course your car, and thus yours to do with as you wish Btw, utterly unconvinced by all those saying drop in a modern 2 litre - that sort of powerplant would be totally unsuitable for a car like this. Needs something much smoother and with plenty of torque. One of the Daimler badged Jag straight 6s or V12s would be appropriate, but Daimler 4.5 hemi V8 FTW! ;D

Would love to keep the pre-selector but mating an engine to it could be rather hard, wait and see there I guess. I don't really fancy a 4 pot, it just seem's wrong somehow, been offered a 3.2 Jag 6 cyl and autobox which should be nice and smooth, run on carbs perhaps to keep the simplicity and looks and less thirsty than a V8. I would load up some more pictures now she's had the dirt washed off but my camera has packed up so once I get a new one I'll get some pic's of her looking, better...
Not much work in this one really, a life of dry storage has helped there. First thing is to try and get hold of a key, anyone got a FA 539 Key?? the front wings have the worst of the rust, and the chromework is dull but not pitted so we shall see how a good polish brings it up. The only repairs are rust to the lower side's, a dent in the boot and front wings need some new metal letting in. Oh and the engine problem.
Hopfully picture will follow shortly.

Presumably Wilmot Breedon? Scroll down this page, and there's a guy clearing out LOADS of old keys & he has your one www.mgcars.org.uk/midgetspriteclub/MascNew/SalesWants.shtml

Seriously cool project. Fat lazy engine and preselecter ftw! Even if it is a lot more work.
