I love these old tanks, they've got such a timeless appeal about them. German style plates look a bit odd on a British-registered RHD car, the old ones are like a mark of its honesty/originality to me. What's the rust situation like?

I'm still tempted to get some old style riveted UK plates... Not 100% on the german pressed ones... Rust really isn't too bad, there are a couple of surface spots i need to sort sooner rather than later, and the passenger side arches need a little fettling, but not a lot considering Wouldn't have been me in Bath, Only just lowered it yesterday! And the day before i was at the beach in West Wales

I wasn't quick enough to catch it to get them to visit the forum Hey are you coming to The Retro Rides Gathering this weekend.. I suspect you'll get a lot of people appreciating your car

I'm planning to pop down to the Gathering on sunday, yeah Should be convoying with a few slammed early golfs too Even though i've taken 3 coils off the fronts, and just 2 off the back, it's still bordering on reverse rake... i may need to get some slightly lower profile tyres up front to sort that... OR stop carrying round 2 trolley jacks and a huge toolbox LOL

yeah, slightly lower profile tyres should see you right at the front .. Car looks good though, would be more than happy to roll that around!

I hope you know that rear bumpers for the 280 model are different, and at least in sweden, somewhat hard to find looking' tough lowered with the hubcaps on... Some pinner whitewalls probably would improve the looks even more... On a 280, you already have all the chrome needed to make such a merc look good...and cream with burgundy interior, well that's a combo most people seems to hate, but I admit that I love it...but of course, one of the reasons that I am on retrorides is that it is allowed to like "unpopular" color schemes here ;D It's amazing how little work that's needed on old mercs, especially 108-109/114-115/116/123/126-series, to make them look really great... They sort of have a "don't mess with me" attitude in their looks, yet very discrete and elegant... A car with built-in self esteem...

Ain't nothin' like a W123 Benz slammed on hubcaps Looks like a really tidy example you've got yourself there. Water pumps always fail on 'em, though - I'd fit one as an insurance policy. They're not too pricey. Are you going to be at the Gathering?

I'd best buy a waterpump then! It's due a full service as soon as i can be bothered, and both rear windows have stopped working now £££! I'll be at The Gathering, should be arriving early on sunday I'm in two minds about getting some slightly lower profile tyres up front... As as soon as you get back seat passengers, or my toolbox in the boot, it gets a bit or reverse rake... I'd love to take another half coil off the fronts, but it's still smooth and comfy at this height, so i don't want to risk it!
