Hi everyone, I'm currently locked out or in depending of my escort mk5 (95) It got broke into last week and was the same story then. the key or handel wouldn't open the door. anyway when i got it back home i wound the window up and the door just opend. Its non cental locking by the way. So i then took all the door card off etc incase this happend again... ran around for a week trying to find a matching door and handle (no luck), got a handle and fitted it today. shut the door which worked fine, but now it wont open!!! Same problem Taken the barrel out and eveything (lucky i didnt put the door card back on) pluss i found this bit off plasic at the bottom of the door (which might be my problem) heres a picture: i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll97/chrisofyellow/P1010401.jpgmain problem is. if the lock mechanism is curse word how do i get it out without the door open? all the screw are on the piller side. i've tried all combinations of moving the door lock arm, the handle arm and the interier lock switch from underneth the lock. This is the same kind of door lock as mine. uk.ebid.net/for-sale/ford-escort-orion-door-lock-6894365-brand-new-part-31169058.htm

How does the handle work the lock?. I had a similar issue with my 106. On the pug theres a metal bar that runs up from the lock to the handle, hooks into the handle plastic and its that which gets pulled up to unlock the door. To me, that piece of plastic looks like it could be the 'hook' part of the handle which fastens onto the 'release bar' of the lock - So your moving the handle but its not actually doing anything to the lock! But i've never looked at an escort handle or door lock, am mechanically incompetent (As displayed by my lack of knowledge about what things are called above!) and may be completely wrong... but its just a stab in the dark!. Like so:

The black bit looks like the arm from the back of the exterior door handle that would open the latch, are you saying the interior door handle doesn't work either? I've added some arrows to your other picture to show how it should work: if you can get those two screws out of the plastic cover in your last pic, you should be able to see the whole mechanism.

I'll have a go of the screws in the morning. The interior door handel and exterior don't do anything at the moment. they all move but don't function. i'm guessing something has gone wrong somewhere. If i can get it open i can take it out. just got to keep messing i guess to get it open.

I'd agree that the hook looks like it has broken off from the back of the handle. The door will still open from inside though.
Push/pull the rods/mech and it will open to enable you access to the striker etc.

Looks like a rod should be attached to the black 'hook' and maybe pick up on the white plastic catch at the bottom left of the mech?
Did you manage to get the door open again?
It's hard to decipher on here. Shouldn't be too much trouble in person though, but failing that take a trip to the scrappy and pull off a door card or two imo.

The CL motor will probably just be an add on and the lock mech will remain the same.
You will need to take a trip to the scrappy anyway for a barrel? Your problem definitley lies with that snapped plastic part though mate. I don't know why I didn't think of stripping the other side! lol

Have you tried tapping it with a hammer while working the handle??
Could just be jammed or stuck and needs a shock.

Not sure if you got this solved or not, if not try this: the lever at (1) is the lock barrel lever, I think it should go up when unlocked, but see which way it'll move easily. The lever at (2) would be connected to the interior door handle, once you have set the latch to unlocked, pull this down, this should release the door, if not can you possibly get a video on your phone of what happens when you push down on it/ try the outside handle etc? HTH
