Hello, thought id start a little thread showing the progress of my mk2. I got her when looking for a project car when I was 16, it was sat in a garage for 6 years and left to rust.
The plan was to keep everything as original as possible or "factory Fresh"and do all the work myself, learning as I went along.
so 3 years on, ive been driving the golf as a daily for over a year and it hasnt stepped a foot wrong. along with no advisories in its last MOT
so step back 3 years...
the standard wheels were shot so I refurbed a set of 14" BBS RZ's
next up was some bodywork.
the tailgate was badly corroded (recently replaced)
there was rust on the rear valance and a patch to the left of the vw badge.
I decided to tackle this with some mix up cans from halfords. they did the job quite well
the final spraying results are shown later in the show pics
so the car was coming along nicely, and I was eager to get driving. after I passed my test I decided to wait for a while to drive my baby and use my mums 1.0 swift (awsome little car!) after 6 months to gain some experiance and a lot of saving I was out in the golf, the best day of my life!
gave the "bay" a sprooooose
this was one of my first shows at barnsley.
about a year back I was asked to display my car at Hayseldens VW in Barnsley for the launch of the new Polo and to celebrate 50 years of trading.
then winter arrived
after 2 years the filler sank in my tailgate and it was looking a bit ratty so I managed to pick up a totally mint tailgate for £50
before machine polish
after
next up, arches off and welding/curing corrosion
thorseby hall classic car show
Elsecar Mega meet
after driving the golf for a while standard I decided a few other additions were needed, my goal was still to keep the car looking as origination as possible which is what I hope I have achieved
decided on some standard 16v BBS RA's refurbed them myself in VW Diamond silver
before
during
VW Diamond Silver and clear lacquer
after
decided on a set of 195/45/15's to complete the look
also wanted to go a little lower than standard partly due to the body roll and also because of the hideous arch gap. so I order a set of FK AK Coilovers.
very very happy with the results
bought a porsche glove box lock. with the stuttgart badge.
so that's my life for the past 3 years all in one post
ive just clocked 94,000 so ive done 10k since owning him.
hope I haven't bored you all to death lol
any comments welcome
