Well, hello there, I've figured out how to upload the pics now so I thought I better had, even though they aren't very good. Boo. So yes, I've had this Beemer for a few weeks now and I'm really pleased, had no trouble whatsoever, and boy am I glad to be out of the Focus I had previously. The car is in such good condition that I'm loathe to mess about with it too much. The guy that owned it before me did a fair bit of work on it. New shocks, pads, discs, exhaust, aircon system, so on and so on. You may just be able to make out the Retro Rides sticker in the back window! Cheers!

Yep, its also got climate control which I believe was fairly unusual. It lived in Norther Ireland for a bit, who knows, you might have seen it!

I agree about the suspension. Maybe when the shocks and so on on the front end were replaced recently they put the wrong ones on?

I'm really liking E34s at the moment and yours looks great. I've had a few before (mainly as engine donors!) but I've currently got a 530i V8 manual and I'm having a great time cruising it around, I don't even have the urge to lower it . Fantastic car

Looks to be Granite Silver not Lachs.
E34 525 M50TU (technical update = Vanos) is one of the best BMW's EVER made. Was the best allrounder. Good economy (better than the 520 it's said), fair performance and no V8 running costs. I had 2 34 525's, a 90 M20 and a 93 M50TU in diamond black with exactly the same silver leather as yours. That car is still running. I bought it when it was 4 years old with 54k on the clock. Sold it to a guy up the road in 2003 and he's still running it. Now wearing 120k, it sounds and looks like new.
That'll be a late K as it has the later mirrors and the Vanos lump. Was a lot of money new by the looks of it. Intensive wash, the leather and the climate were all options. Not many with air had sunroofs either (mine had both as well). I'd source an M Tech 2 steering wheel for it though. Those 4 spokers are not a nice look and the M Tech wheels are a thing of beauty to see and behold.

b7- you're absolutely right on the colour it says Granite Silver right there under the bonnet. Good to know about the technical bits. I shall look out for an M Tech 2 steering wheel.
I think the gear box is worn as it sometimes gives a 'bump' when accelerating up a hill. I'm happy to live with it I think.

These have the later 5 speed sealed for life adaptive gearboxes (ZF 5HP24??) which can do some strange things. I found it was perfectly normal to be approaching say a roundabout and it not really knowing what gear to select then with a bit of a jolt, selecting 2nd. There are no dipsticks on these boxes and if theres no history of a box fluid change, I'd be thinking of a fluid and filter change to be safe.
Personally I prefer the earlier 4 speed boxes (ZF 4HP22) that the m20's had (and I still have one in my e30 convertible) which IMO were smoother and easier to maintain oil change wise as they have the traditional dipstick.

Hi, I'm pretty sure it's had a fluid change fairly recently because the chap gave me a device he bought, some kind of key, to drain the gearbox.

ah, mine must have just been on the options package then. Last e34 I bought was a few months ago, a 530ise, again had the lowered suspension, hence why I saw a patern emerging Nice car, 11 months mot, 11 months (disabled) tax, 5 brand new tyres and an alusil replacement engine 70'000 miles ago.... £650...that kind of money you cant go wrong

I've noticed in the owners booklet it says 525i 'Special Equipment' not 'Standard Equipment'. A small mystery solved.

So, one year on and I still have the 525iSE. Over the last few months I had some work done on the brakes, that's about it. Now on 136k miles it passed the MOT no problem! Here are a few photos. It's in pretty good nick really but there are a few bits of trimI'd like to sort out. If anyone could advise me on the best place to source them I would be grateful. I need a mudflap and that small piece of trim there. Original wheels in good shape even if they look a bit balloony for today's tastes. A bit of elbow grease and she shines up well! A few scratches on the bumper. Those indicators might not stay orange for long! Some Alaldite would probably sort this out. This trim on the driver's door annoys me no end. MUST FIX THIS. Oh yes, the strip under the headlights keeps popping off. Superglue lasted a while ... Better sort this out before long ... New numberplates before too long. And headlight subtle tint laminex! Why buy a rubbish new car when you can smoke about in something like this? I ask you! Any advice appreciated on finding the bits. Will update photographically when I get my spanner out. Or glue.

Cheers! Here's an 'after' shot once I'd applied the linseed oil to the black bits. It looks a hell of a lot better, took an hour and cost £2. Briiliant!
