Just responded to an email on Freecycle offering a 1972 Mini Cooper for restoration.
Wish me luck!
Oh, and cross everything as no doubt there'll be lots of folks asking for it.

Pretty sure they didnt make coopers in '72?
I think they made cooper s' in 71 for a short time but nobody would sell a mk3 cooper s on freecycle, they're exceedingly rare.

Must be a Southern thing, as the best we have on Freecycle at the moment up here is "Large pile of semi-rotten wood" (no kidding, lol)

We had a 1996 Fiat Brava on there a few months back but it sounded like a right bag of nails.
The best one I've seen was a 1995 Peugeot 205 Diesel with long mot but with a cooked clutch, the owner said it was clean had low mileage, I bet it got collected quickly.

I hope this thread gets updated so that we nosey b'stards find out what happened...
My money is on a '72 Mini that acquired a new engine or even just the wheels and has been known by the current or most recent keeper as "my Mini Cooper". Who cares though, free is still free!

not to sound dumb but whats Freecycle It's a website where people list things they want rid of for no money, the name is a clever portmanteau of Free and Recycle. It seems to have evolved into, in Edinburgh at least, a site where people list the most random things imaginable for free, no cars in Edinburgh, and post unbelievably ambitious wanted ads. For example, there's a wanted ad for a Macbook Pro where the poster is very specific about the model they want. No cars in Scotland, as far as I can see. Lots of bits of cars and tools, some stuff that must be eBayable. If I had a van I would probably investigate more. Bitching pickup. Love those arches.

Some people do take the curse word a bit on freecycle. Nothing of any merit pops up really, apart from a record player, which was snapped up before i could even reply.
I remember a while back someone asking for paving slabs, sand and cement so presumably they could build themselves a free patio.

Paving slabs is fair enough really, I could probably sort them out a fair few as they only get crunched up for type 1 agg when i get pavements converted to tarmac ;D

Had some good things over the years off FC though.
Binoculars, fishing gear camping gear etc.
Also given away Scalextric, fish tank etc.

Freecycles seem to go through cycles of being pretty good to being full of people stocking up on stuff for car booting. The whole point is that it's a site based on the principle of 'one man's trash is another man's treasure'. I've seen a few folks get cars that the previous owner saw no worth in, but were too sentimentally attached to so wouldn't scrap. This can only be a good thing.
Good luck with the Mini, though I suspect that with it being a Mini and the price of scrap being what it is, the original poster will be absolutely swamped with replies!

dpeends where you are i think, i have had a few old tools, a decent trolly jack, some axle stands, a windsurfer amongst other things, my missus hates it but i have been able to use things that were otherwise going to waste.
No cars been offered on ours that i have seen, but i did once get offered a an escort 1300E by aman just randomly walking past my house that turned out to be a mk2 1600L when we dug out of the garage it had been in for 9 years.

Must be a Southern thing, as the best we have on Freecycle at the moment up here is "Large pile of semi-rotten wood" (no kidding, lol) ;D Lol, most of the time it's breast pumps and other used intimate baby care regalia. But having said that, nearly all by bikes came from Freecycle, I got a tent when mine was stolen and some crutches. Not been too bad
