I've had this for a few years, took it to RR'10 last year as a 2.6 in blue. I'm doing some more bits on it this year........ I have changed the suspension to koni springs with Rsnge rover rear shocks - which is waaaaaaaay better than the original stuff. It has jeep cherokee 17" alloys on - currently in orange but we will see. I am rebuilding a RV8 at the moment and hope to have the engine done before R-R11...... here are some pics...... some just before RR10 last year   the current 6 pot (which is a very good engine if you ever consider one  new wheels going on (pre suspension change)  new coils....  front suspension going on - all the arms are being changed at the moment as doing this revealed worn ball joints.  I hope you like it....... I will update with new photos once its fully painted etc |

The SD1 always had such a great shape to it.

put the spare engine on the stand ready for rebuilding and fettling..... injection and inlet off, right cyl head off   cylinder head cleaned, decoked valves out, cleaned, opened out a tad and new valves back in.  couldn't resist test fitting a freshly painted rocker cover on the finished head, this is the same colour of the wheels - rustoleum sunset orange    the other side will get done this week end as well as all the oil pump, etc. so far the engine seems in good order, the only problem is the wall between exhaust and inlet valve on the front two cylinders has suffered but I will sort that when it comes apart again. I am fitting a 3.9 throttle and will after the show be swapping out the cam for a piper jobbie. Next on the list of many things is sort an exhaust system for it - I would really like a TVR sort of noise but need to keep under 102dB |

Why the noise limit? My TVR is VERY noisey with a non-standard system, featuring only Cherry bombs as a method (attempt ) of silencing. Strangely at a recent track day at Brands Hatch it passed the 104db limit for the day (it's defo louder than that) and I didn't need my TD silecers, I think the tester passed it because he like the V8 sound (a four pot Corsa over the db limit has no chance ) Nice project. |

had a new winscreen put in today - was a bit pricey  and there were loads of rust and holes along the windscreen section so lots of hurried welding to plug them all up - all done with 1/2 hour to spare =   anyhow, to cheer up I got out my BMW e36 angel eye lights to trial fit to the sd1 - think they will look good when all the trim is back on    a pic of the bit of the car that has seen paint, wheels in orange, this shot makes the suspension look quite hjigh but it sits at an angle of the concrete - thik it will still need some adjusting up to suit when the V8 goes in |

Well its been in storage for over a year, so decided to get it out and into the workshop. I bought a load of bits over the last year or so that I knew where needed for either the v8 conversion or generally becuase parts needed changing. made space on the shelves for all the bits so far started with the front suspension today, and a replacement fuel tank for the EFi conversion. steering rack gaitor front control arms and a quick degrease and paint as I go.   got some BMW E36 angl eye lights as they are a similar shaoe - I trial fitted them to see what they look like  celebrated all the nuts and bolt coming undone nicely by painting some teeth on the front.........its only rough at the moment  engine is nearly done, but when fitting new plugs I noticed one of the plug threads was knackered from cross threading, I have to insert a helicoil into it before the engine can be finished off. next few weekends are finishing off the engine, fitting the nice lightened flywheel and clutch asembly. I have a plan to fit air conditioning to it too as the v8 has all the bit to bolt on. I will see if I get the time before rr12 - I have gotten used to climate control in the daily so air con would be nice. |

fitted the rebuilt engine today - did on my own as every one else was either working or busy. the engine install went well actually - slipped in without too much giggery pokery.  I decided to whip off the passenger wing and start attending to some rust on the inner wing. not fnished yet but got a long way in. before.....  after.........  still a long way of being finished but everything is heading in the right direction. next week its the fuel tank mods, fuel lines and engine wiring loom |

Looking good. I've got the jeep wheels on my P5B, what size tyres have you got on them? I had to guess what size would work, so chose 225/50/17 as a starting point, they are also plentiful in supply being fitted to many a BMW and jaguar x type, I am running a pair of run flats on the back. If I had known I would have bought a skinnier tyre and had a little bit of stretch to fit in the arch, but I didnt have any references to go by. it would allow me to go a little lower. I have fitted some 1" spacers on the car to widen the track and allow a little more clearance on the struts, plus the steering wheel on full lock made the front wheels rub on inner chassis rail. I bought the spacers off US ebay from a company that do offroad gear for cherokees, they are really nive bits of kit and cost about £200 all in. It makes the cars lines so much nicer as the wheels sit just inside the arches. |

Looking forward to updates. thanks very much..........its only been back in the barn for a few weeks as I had customer cars in there for quite a while, I have lost a bit of mojo on the car prior to this but am now quite focused on getting it running and sorted for RR12, which is not actually that many 'days of car work' away for me as I only get down there for a few hours each saturday. will be posting after each saturday until RR12 with a weekly update |

this weekend I did this.............. I chopped out hte old rear light panel as it was really rusted, it has been repaired a few times before so I had opted toreplace with a new/old stock part. first I had to remove the trim and chop out the old one....  then I positioned and chopped the new one about a bit to make it fit (better fit than the BL original as it happens) although I had all day to ponce around getting it 'just so'.  I still need to weld some plates behind the holes in the bottom corners as the original does nt have them. next on the list is to raise half the boot floor to enable the bike silencer to fit. I made some progress with the wiring loom too, I found the important wires and marked each one, hopefully that wont be too much of a ball ache. more updates to come after next week end. cheers Dave |
