Where is all the water going?

Hi guys,

My Mk2 Jetta 1.6 TX is going through so much water, but I can't figure out where it's all going.

In the last 8 months it's had a new water pump, flanges, radiator & expansion tank. The one flange on the side of the head was a tiny bit loose, but it's going through about 4 litres of water a week (or 150miles).

It's not got any signs of the head gasket gone and I can't find any leaks from anywhere. I really can't figure out where it's all going.

Any ideas chums?

is there any water/steam coming out the exhaust when running?

could be burning water, as above any white smoke/steam? ,

failing that id get water system presure tested for leaks, and a sniff test,.

if its not leaking anywhere around the engine bay, its got to be going out of the exhaust. either that or into the oil, but if it was putting that much water into the oil, i think youd have noticed by now!!!

Nope, no steam from the exhaust, but see below, and definatly not in the oil. Oil was changed a few months ago and is still pretty golden coloured.

I've driven the car round for a good while, parked it back at mine with some cardboard under it do see if there are any drips. Nothing.

The 'C' clamp that holds the exhaust on is a bit loose on the one side. I'll look into seing if there is any steam coming out of there, but I think I'd have seen it while the bonnet was up.
