I bought a car back in march and am yet to recieve my V5.
Now there is a bit of a story, I bought the car on a wim without even looking at it, paid via paypal and had a courier pick the car up. All without actually meeting the vendor in person. Before anyone says it I know it was stupid but ive got to sort it out.
Anyway I arranged for the vendor to fill in his part of the V5 then post it to me so that I could sign it and then send to DVLA. But it never came and a new V5 hasn't either.
Am I going to get in big curse word if I just fill in and send off a V62 form now. As I paid by paypal I do have proof of payment but it doesn't say what that payment was for.
Just imagine for a minute you where in my position which I doubt anyone else would be stupid enough to put themselves in. What would you do?

First port of call...
Contact the seller. Did he remember to send it?
Second...
Apply for a new logbook

Contacted the seller 3 times now and each time ive been told.
Oh yeah sorry forgot to send it a month passes nothing and I get the same story.
Flippin annoying that its costing me money I shouldn't have to spend. Probably gonna get a SORN fine as well for it.

fill the form out with the date of the last few days, they don't need to know you've had the car since march then any fines will go to the previous owner, declare it sorn yourself once the logbook arrives to you

I very much doubt they'd fine you if you don't even have the capability to SORN it? That said, this is DVLA.. Assuming seller is honest and genuinely forgetful (with which I can sympathise!) then ask him once more, if not, apply for a new one. I'm working on the assumption that your seller was the last registered keeper and/or the owner and had the right to sell. Deal with any potential criminal aspect as and when it comes to it, which I doubt it will.. Afterall, who'd try to sell a nicked Daf

The registered keeper will get any sorn fines, so your ok there I would just apply for the replacement logbook your self and you should be fine and legal

that ^^^^^^ is tempting sometimes when you get mucked around by the seller. we had a similar problem with my mum's mitsubishi. About 6 months into owning it we needed to retax it. But realised that we hadnt had a renewal letter for the tax and couldnt find the V5 (being forgetful we thought we'd just lost it as couldnt remember if we'd received it or not). So phoned DVLA up and they said that it wasnt even registered in our name. Turns out the seller had forgotten to send the logbook off and 6 months on it was still on his desk lol. Spoke to him about it and he sent it off the next day. If you've exhausted all attempts with the seller then applying for it is the best way. IIRC when you apply for a logbook the last registered keeper gets a letter notifying them of this and if he has nothing to hide he wont have a problem in letting you apply. Try to get the V5 off him though as it will save you the £25 application fee

Ask him if he's sent the V5 off, say,
"I only ask as i went through a couple of red light cameras but haven't recieved the fines yet so they may be coming your way"
