After reading here for quite some time, I felt it's time to post my little project.
It all started sometime in march 2009 when I got a phonecall from a friend asking if I wanted his little car. After telling him I don't really have the cash to buy and start a project, he told me to listen better and repeated that I can have it. Well after that it took me around 0,5 seconds to tell him i'd be picking it up the saturday after.
That made me a Toyota 1000 (kp30) owner!
Thanks Mark!
So what did I end up with? A somewhat rotten handpainted Castrol replica of something that never existed.
Pictures tell a 1000 words, so have a look:
I never took pictures of it complete, so I stole these of my friends photobucket.
After I got it, the best I could think of was to take it down to a bare shell and start welding.
The car was in worse condition as it first looked, so the welding took a while longer as expected. And needed more parts then first thought.
Some more pictures:
After more welding and cleaning and using a homemade sandblaster to get to all the small corners it looked more like this:
More and more sanding and filling and finally it was time to splash some paint around.
I chose the original colorcode on the ID tag of the car. It's called Swan White, but in fact it's a very light grey.
You guessed it, pictures:
After the shell was painted I made it as much of a roller as I could so the shell could be stored and I could make room for all the other bolt on parts. Doors, bonnet and "stuff"
That looked something like this:
On to the other parts:
Slowly but shurely it started to look like a car again:
