Hi all..
Does anyone know much about the above engine? I have searched about and it doesn't seem to be used for tuning or hot rodding at all. Is it known by a different name when fitted to a different car? What parts availability like? are manual gearboxes for these common?
I don't know what year the engine is, just that its complete and running. Best suited to a tractor?
Ta in advance from a V8 numpty!

it basically is a tractor engine.......
international were never the most forward-thinking or innovative company, mostly being a manufacturer of agricutural equipment and trucks, and probably the biggest reason no-one really used their stuff at any time to build fast car, is the stuff from other contampary companies was miles ahead in terms of technology and power output.
you should be able to find a 2wd box, as both the scouts and the pickups were available in either 2wd or 4wd format.

seem to be a fairly obscure engine I assume its the V345 so maybe try searching using that name? They were fitted into all sorts of light and medium internationa trucks by the looks of things but not often modified from what I can see. looks like there are some aftermarket bits available but I assume there $$$ and hard to find here (the scout seems to be semi popular for off roading in the US) guess there designed for torque and strength tbh found these www.tmcom.com/~tsm1/scout/faq/performance_345_part_1.htmwww.hotrodders.com/forum/345-ih-scout-motor-project-125632.htmlso seems you 'can' modify them plus from what I read there pretty much indestructible, think it would be more suited in a hauler or off roader though be cool to have something different tbh, and it is an american v8 and seems to make all the right noises I don't know much about them tbh, so take everything I say as second hand info)

When I was living in the states these had the reputation (in their original vehicles) of being brilliant for off road vehicles. However if you like double digit mpg or highway cruising it was another story (I still almost bought one though)

As I recall a lot of the later IH stuff was fitted with engines from other makes (SBC at a guess)

I learned to drive in a 4 cylinder International Scout Traveller - the four cylinder being an International V8 less one bank of cylinders. I don't know much about the engines, but in stock form they were built for use in trucks so the focus would be on torque. They did have some success in the Baja 1000 in the 1970s: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Harvester_Scout#Use_in_offroad_racingInternational used a Mopar 727 auto trans behind their engines I believe (maybe others as well) although obviously it will use a different case. All International V8s and 4 cylinders were in-house designs. International did use AMC/Jeep inline sixes and Nissan Diesel engines in their light truck range.

Thanks for the info guys... I guess a redline of 4000rpm and a volvo 240 2 litre axle may result in a pretty low motorway speed! It is cheap enough though...
How physically big are they? SBC size?

I've spoken to the guy flogging it and it comes with a broken autobox so i'll have to hunt down a 2wd manual box, flywheel and clutch to fit. These seem to be quite common on yankbay but actually getting hold of one could prove difficult.
Maybe I should just stick to a Rover V8 and accept defeat!

I'm not going to buy this lump, nobody seems to know much about them and those who do don't rate them that highly.
