Explain how it identifies that the driver of a car has no license. If the police pull up a car that's registered to you on anpr and your license is currently suspended for any reason there's a fair chance they'll pull you over to check. That's kinda my point, for an ANPR flag to ping a car where the driver has no license, the ANPR MUST look at the registered keeper linked to the registration number for the vehicle to be able to work out who's details to look for. Therefore if the ANPR looks for the Regsitered Keeper info on a number plate, and it comes back as not registered, it will ping to pull it over, something that the person I quoted said wouldn't happen.

Id swear I watched an episode of traffic cops not long ago where they pulled a car over because the ANPR came back as no registered keeper. When they spoke to the driver they discovered that there had been a mistake making the plates up so the reg the ANPR picked up didn't exist as such

They've definitely pulled cars over for having no registered keeper, I've seen it myself.
I've not seen this example, but I have heard of plates being made up where two digits or letters have accidentally been reversed and the owner hadn't noticed.

I had a similar experience a few years back. I came in from a night shift and was getting ready for some shut eye when the local boys in blue appeared at my door.. 3 outstanding parking fines and I was to appear at court.. after I got to court and handed the paper work I had a read and didn't recognise the reg number. explained this to the judge and said I had never owned the car in question and was told to get a letter from the dvla to say this. I got a letter from the dvla to say I had never been the registered keeper of the vehicle. ( this is the clever bit ) when I took the letter to the court which said I had never been the registered keeper of said vehicle the court told me that this wasn't good enough as it never stated that I hadn't been the registered keeper between the dates of the parking fines... I then had to go back to the dvla and get them to write me a letter to say I had not been the registered keeper of the car in between the dates of the first and last fine..

if its registered at your house you could request a new V5c, as the letter warning the current owner that a new v5c has been requested will turn up at your door the request will go un-ccontested.... Terrible advice! Why would you want to register a car that you don't own. You'd certainly be liable for any fine then! Anyway, really not a subject for discussion here. May I recommend to search / ask advice on this one - forums.pepipoo.com/ Would of been a great idea if you could still send the v5's off as scrapped, that would of shafted him good and proper

Alerting the Police should make an ANPR camera flag the car up? Should do.. Its an illegally registered car. And if you want to get into it , it means the insurance is invalid too as its not registered to the keepers address. The cops should realy be showing interest in getting it sorted. Its a crime after all

Similarly(ish) I got a tug in Lady HC's old Fiesta for not having insurance (which I did / thought I did) so duly took my docs to the police station, where they pointed out the reg on the certificate said EJK154T, as opposed to EGK154T on the car

You could change the displacement of the engine, you could change the colour of the car. You could change the address of the registered keeper (the local police station? 10 Downing Street? Buckingham Palace? DVLA Swansea?). Not that I recommend or condone such behaviour, but you could definitely have a bit of fun with it before the law caught up with you (or the owner).

I had very little trouble getting a car of mine de-scrapped (actually bought from inside a scrapyard!) and back OTR. Even kept the 8 months MOT active. Got pulled once, explained, on your way sir.

Yeah bit you knew the car had been scrapped and you had proof the car was yours, the chap who's driving around in this car would have neither

Actually I didn't, the scrapyard said it hadn't yet been declared, and I had no receipt and certainly no paperwork in the car as I never carry docs with me. I simply repaired it, and started driving.

You would most likely find yourself in the brown sticky stuff for falsely declaring it scrapped. The thought of it is fantastic, but it is attributable to you and when it is pulled over the boys in blue will rock up wanting to know why they've just pulled a car that you signed a legal document stating it had been destroyed. Besides which the new log book doesn't allow the owner or keeper to declare it as such, only that it was taken to an authorised dismantler. There's been a lot of thoughts on what to do, some good, some just plain daft. Noone's suggested speaking to an independent agency. Citizens advice, your insurance company maybe, local MP. If the police are that unwilling to help (which is bloody awful, but not that shocking) get them to at least make an incident report, get the number and their badge number and name and it will give you a starting point to come back to. Also, if it transpires that they should have helped more they'll get their rse kicked. Is there a local DVLA office near you? there's a few about the country. Maybe rock up there and get counter service. People are a lot more helpful when you're on their doorstep rather than on the end of a phone or having written a letter. Make sure you get everything written down and keep a file of it though. I also wouldn't trust that the credit company gets it right. Mistakes are their forte. Make sure your credit rating isn't affected. Don't just take their word for it, but check yourself. Finally... Good luck!

Somewhere in there I would have just lain down the on the floor, adopted the foetal position and sobbed with frustration.
